It might be Your Place, but it's no longer My Place, 4/18/2018
Reviewer: Jay from Santa Barbara, CA
First off, the owners are Chinese not Thai. Not that that matters, but their food is more "Thai fusion" than authentic Thai. I've been going to this place since I was a kid, and I'm 35 now, so I think my assessment is fair. This place was once delicious and great, but over the last 3-4 years the food has gotten over saturated with what we in the restaurant biz call "Asian flavor Sauces." These are sauces filled with msg and such that they sell in large bottles in Thai Town, Los Angeles. A lot of places just fill up on these as it's easier than making the sauces from scratch. I know this as I've seen the boxes for these sauces in the back. I've asked them if they use MSG which they claim to not know what it is. Hmm. That aside, I think what gets me more is that their prices are waaaaaay too high for this type of food. What costs them $3.00 they charge $17. $2 worth of basic pad Thai is 12.95. So be warned your bill will be much higher than expected.

I'm not going back
Reviewer: Bob from Santa Barbara, CA
I have dined here occasionally for years and although I never though the food or service was particularly great. I did consider it an option for a quick non fast food meal. However my most recent experience with their seafood and away from the curry and such I usually order was so poor I will not return. I'm talking about spitting food into a napkin kind of bad. I really was afraid to eat the dish. I think the ingredients in the (mixed seafood soup) dish I ordered were so far past their prime that it makes me question the standards used in the other spiced dishes I usually have; where that would be harder to detect.

So Disappointed
Reviewer: Steve from Santa Barbara, CA
So disappointed. This place has been one of our favorites for many years. Last week we left without eating any of our dinner other than the soup and rice. The garlic beef was inedible and tasted as if the beef was rancid. The chicken with cashews was dry and overcooked. The waiter appropriately deleted the beef from the invoice. The lemongrass chicken soup was as good as always. The service was OK but fairly inattentive.

best rated on Restaurant Guy's Best Of poll
Reviewer: robert from Santa Barbara, CA
Pretty good. Prefer Bangkok Palace. But, surprisingly, the lowest rated place (by anon reviewers) on restaurant guy's guide WON the Best Of Thai on Restaurant Guy's Thai "best of 2011"!

Great food!
Reviewer: Claudia Barragan from Santa Barbara, CA
I love the food, it's one of my favorite restaurants in town. Try the Princess Favorite Shrimp with rice (mild or medium), so delicious! The wonton soup is very yummy too. I'm a local by the way.

No Me Gusta
Reviewer: Tory from Santa Barbara, CA
No Me Gusta means " This doesn't give me pleasure" or " I don't like". I had heard about this place from other folks in town. Everyone says it's the best Thai. I don't agree at all. When we walked in it smelled awful. Not like food cooking. Just bad. The food isn't very good. Everything was way too salty and overcooked, even the noodles. Not a good experience. If you are looking for good Thai, try Gallanga. Maybe I am one of the few who don't really dig Your Place, but I don't consider myself picky and I really love Thai food. Hope this helps!

Best Thai food
Reviewer: Jon from Summerland, CA
Let me preface this by saying that I've eaten in only a few Thai restaurants in this area, but many in the SF Bay area where there is a much greater ethnic population. I have found that Your Place is consistently superior to the all the other restaurants that I have been to. We always start with a hot pot of the seafood soup, but ask for the coconut based broth instead of the hot/sour it usually comes with. Then a curry and the deep fried garlic fish fillets. Last time they recommended the daily special, Panang curry crispy shrimp, which was phenomenal, with a rich thick sauce. I have had their chicken satay in the past, and it is great. I love the vinegared cucumber salad that comes with the satay, and on every visit order that salad (which is not on the menu) as a side. Service has always been good, I have no complaints. It is not an "upscale" neighborhood, but has easy freeway access (if you can stand the Milpas traffic circle) and good parking in front.

Miss Your Place
Reviewer: Mary & Bill Molloy from Dallas, TX
We moved from Santa Barbara almost 18 years ago and we are still searching for Thai food that is as good as that served at Your Place! We ate there at least once a week for seven years. The curries are fabulous and the satay sauce is the best we have ever had--in fact we won't order satay anymore because it always is disappointing compared to that at Your Place. We so miss Your Place and their excellent food!

Terrible Service and Attitude!
Reviewer: Shereen De Silva from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband and I went there with an out of town guest and had bad food and even worse service. The owner's daughter was waving her pen in my husbands face and was pretty much about to poke his eye with it and punch him in the face, when we informed them that the Yellow Curry Tofu was watery. We've never had an experience like that before and she kept shouting that the "Chef" (her mother)is very upset by our comment. Shocking!! I used to like this place too..shame! Will never reccommend it again to anyone.

Tom Yummm Soup
Reviewer: Lillian from Santa Barbara, CA
Whenever I feel a cold coming on I head into YP for their Tom Yum soup and it's never failed me. You can really taste the fresh coriander and kaffir lime leaves. The coconut milk makes the broth rich and comforting. Definitely a must as a first course. I'm surprised at all the negative comments saying that the location is ghetto and the service is terrible. Perhaps head to state street if you're looking for a ritzy get up with over priced, over rated meals. I agree that they don't wait on you hand and foot here but I appreciate having a quiet meal without being interrupted 5 times by an overly perky, tip hungry college student. I would recommended bringing your help along if you need someone to wipe your mouth for you.

LOVED this restaurant for our 7th Anniversary
Reviewer: Dan Fleury from Santa Barbara, CA
I has been a while since I had been there last, but I have always loved it there. So, when reading your reviews just before going there tonight for my 7th Anniversary I was a little hesitant. "Great food, lousy service..." I'm so glad I chose to go anyway. The place was packed, as would be expected for someplace that is consistently good. And, as feared by reading these reviews, there was in fact a "surprise" party of 6 that arrived just when we had. Overall, we may have waited 5 minutes for a table. Once seated, our order was taken in no time, and they were very quick with everything from the tea/water, to the appetizers (Lemongrass Shrimp & Coconut Soup & Chicken Satay), to the main course (Oyster Beef & Road Duckling). The service was excellent, and the servings were both generous AND delicious!

order chicken satay (chicken on a stick with peanut sauce), shrimp pad thai (yummy noodles), and green curry ( basil, coconut, etc.. sweet but with spice)
