Should have come here years ago!
Reviewer: eric from Santa Barbara, CA
Dear Dargans, I apologize for having lived in Santa Barbara for fifteen years but only recently giving you a try. I had dinner here with a friend about a week ago and really enjoyed the Onion Soup, Irish Nachos and Fish & Chips. I came back tonight and had the Pear & Brie Salad along with the Rueben Sandwich. While the salad could have used a bit more dressing it was quite good. The corned beef is the best I've had in SB - no visible fat yet juicy and flavorful. Please forgive me, I'll be back to try the ribs, steaks and curry! (and perhaps a pint or 3)

Awesomeness in my mouth~

I have gone to this place numerous times over the past five years and I have yet to be disappointed by the food or its servers. I have come here with family and on occasion a friend or two. Thursday nights is the best to go but be wary that it's also the beginning of the weekend for college students so it may be busy, it's TO be expected for being close to a college. When it comes to selecting my order, I tend to stick to traditional Irish foods simply because its an IRISH restaurant! Another thing that's is great is it's beer selection and the live music.

Very enjoyable, both the food and the service.

Over a period of four months we've enjoyed both good service and delicious food three times. The atmosphere, whether eating inside or outside, is pleasant. Not taking reservations is a negative, but I called and they were willing to give me a 15 minute seating time.

Nice Lunch

2nd time here, both times for lunch. We are slowing eating are way through Santa Barbara, two kids in college up here. Food was good, both times very tasty, well prepared, service was attentive. Becoming high on the list of favorites.

Worst food in worst restaurant

Can't say I've ever had a good meal here but tonight was The Worst. Ok, I should know better than to order something called Sheppard's Pie Chimichanga but it was worse than it sounds. On the good side is of course the beer. Had a brown and black which Guiness mixed with Newcastle Brown Ale. They go well together and are quite refreshing and tasty. Apparently the soups are good and a friend likes the quessidillas. We had a very nice server too.

Good food, fun & ethical!

Went for lunch after finding some giftcards that had to be 3-5 years old. They honored them with a smile. The Ruben was perfect and the Stella was cold! Great lunch!

Great and terrible in one week
Reviewer: Ixchelle from Santa Barbara, CA
About a month ago my husband and I stopped in on a Monday night to try out the new menu. I had the fried chicken and it was great, crispy on the outside moist on the inside with a crunchy exterior. The thyme gravy was flavorful but not too overwhelming. The food was piping hot when it reached our table. Also the server was attentive, perky, and on top of everything. Great! A week later on Tuesday we returned expecting the same experience but no such luck. This time the chicken was served cold, clearly it had sat for a while and it was very dry. The mashed potatoes actually hardened on the top from the wait. The thyme gravy was super salty. Of course the breading had become soggy by the time it reached me. It had already taken quite a while to get our food to begin with and I didn't want to wait another 30 min. Even if we had tried to get help our waitress seemed so overwhelmed I doubt she would have been able to do anything. Another table nearby actually began serving their own water from the bus station. Overall it was a terrible experience. I'm not sure how one place can be so good and so bad in 8 days but I'm not going back to see if there is a third.

Mixed Feelings...

I think I like Dargan's a lot. It's usually the first place I go when heading out for a night of revelry with my friends, but it's not always a guaranteed good time. My most recent experience was on a busy night, with a lot of friends and only one bartender. Needless to say she was working hard, but also made seemingly no effort to be friendly or even show gratitude when I left a good tip. I work in a restaurant myself and understand that busy nights can be stressful, and it's not easy to always pay extra attention to everyone, but the service we got was downright bad. It was a bummer, especially after having been there not a week before and having a great dinner and good conversation with a different bartender. I hope it was just an off night and that when I'm back next, I'll have such a good time I'll forget all about it. But until then, I'm left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Always a good place to eat

My husband and I have been living in Santa Barbara for almost 3 years. One of our favorite places to go is Dargan's. It's a Pub, so don't expect to get waited on hand and foot like some comments below.. Always good food and good music.. We take all our friends who visit here for a pint and fun times.. It has even inspired us to go visit Ireland for our 10 year anniversary next year..

I've eaten here three times. The first two times were quite good, the food was above average and the service was fine. The third time was disappointing. The waitress was very slow in bringing us our drinks, and forgot things like silverware and the water that we asked for. She spent a lot of time speaking with some pool players and the bar staff. The shepherd's pie was underwhelming, the crunchy top had turned chewy, probably from sitting out too long. The rest of the food at our table was good. At the end of the meal the waitress tried to apologize for the quality of service by blaming it on a concussion. Hopefully not actually true, and I doubt it was. I'll probably be back eventually, hopefully this was a fluke.

I hated it here. I was served warm beer, and cold food. I got a terrible waitress, and reported it to the manager, and got a "You should be nice to the waitress and pay her a tip for working with you." I was shocked! Such managers of such a resturant and PUB should be great! understanding, and good to you! They should get it together, since most importantly, it was my birthday!

Friday night we had a great time!

My husband and I were in town visiting from Buellton for the weekend and decided to check out Dargan's on Friday 2/5. It was definately worth the visit for both the food AND the service. We had a fabulous time enjoying both appetizers and entrees (with pints of Guiness and drinks!!) and talking to our server--who was being picked-on in front of us by a group of rude people who need to learn proper restaurant manners! In any case, a couple of bad apples for customers won't keep us away, we WILL be back on our next visit to SB for more comfort food and en enjoyable atmosphere...and we have already told our friends...Kudos!!
