First I would like to thank you Mr. John Dickson for your website. It was my wife's birthday this week and I wanted to take her somewhere nice. I googled restaurants in Santa Barbara and your website appeared. We love mexican food and the reviews were good so I took her to Dos Carlitos in Santa Ynez. It was worth the drive. We loved the food ( even though it was a little expensive but let me tell you ,worth it ), we loved the margaritas, we loved the feel of the restaurant , and we loved the staff. My wife and I had the best time. Thank You !

My wife and I stopped in recently while on vacation. We found the food to be delicious. It is not your usual Mexican food but is something special with fresh ingredients. The service was okay but it is the food that makes the experience worthwhile.

Wonderful Food & Service

It was my first time at Dos Carlitos & it was such a great dining experience... from the food to the outstanding service. I have to say our waiter, Guillermo was one of the best I've ever had with his knowledge of the menu, helpful suggestions & prompt service. The waitstaff was excellent as well & thanked us several times for coming. Outstanding! I can't wait to go back!

Terrific service, enjoyable experience

This restaurant is comfortable, clean and attractive. The waitstaff is clearly well-trained. All are very friendly and helpful without being obsequious. The menu offers a good variety of selections. We enjoyed the guacamole served in a molcajete and the tamale trio as appetizers. Our main server, Guillermo, overheard one of us commenting on the flavorful mole sauce and quietly brought us a ramekin of additonal sauce--nice gesture. This was a very pleasurable experience on a quiet Sunday afternoon in Santa Ynez.

happy hour in the Santa Ynez Valley

Greated at the door by a tall good looking fella who seated me, and remembered my name from the first visit was especially entertaining to my ego. Then came the drinks, well made, which is VERY important to me! The bartender offered another premium margarita at the happy hour price ($5) half an hour before happy hour (4-6)! Shall I keep going? The service was outstanding. When the bartender saw us putting Chalula (sp?) in one of our salsa's he brought out another extra spicy salsa for us... not knowing a whole lot as far as tequila goes, and being slightly overwhelmed at the amount of available, the Owner Carlos, poured a few to taste and had a lot of information that was extremely helpful! Who knew that tequila could taste so good :) Chicken quesadilla and stuffed anahiem chiles were outstanding as well. Go try Dos Carlitos during happy hour for $5 margaritas and FREE appetizers - see if it is for you!

I first ate there with guests from Uk. We loved it even though the service was slow - but we had time as it was in the afternoon. A friend visited me from Australia and we were in the area. I raved about this mexican joint only to end up embarrised. We were sat at a dirty table outside - took 15 mins for staff to clear it - ordered drinks and after 20 mins enquired where the drinks were - we were told there was only one bartender and he was really busy. Finally the drinks came and we were ready to order - wow! We waited 45 mins for our food - so we sat there eating chips and dip. We decided to order another drink and I suggested going directly to the bar for faster service - well that took just as long as my friend was ignored by the bartender and left standing there AND HE WAS THE ONLY ONE AT THE BAR - I had to go in and find out what was happening as he had been gone soooo looong. I voiced my concerns to our waitress and she copped an attitude. It was so embarrising as I had recommended this place to my friend - he couldn't believe the service. It took over two hours to eat a burrito and drink two drinks. THE SERVICE WAS ABSOLUTLEY TERRIBLE!

BEST Mexican Food ever!!!

My husband and I dined there for his birthday while visiting Santa Barbara and we consider our favorite food Mexican Food so you can imagine we have tried many restaurants and this place by far exceeds all of them. The food is pricey but it was well worth it. I only wish we were closer then 3 hours away to visit this fantatic place. YUMMY!!!

Pretty Good / Not Great
Reviewer: John S. from Santa Barbara, CA
Dinner there last night, it was pretty good. This is the only upscale Mexican place in Santa Ynez valley, so we needed this restaurant. It is a little short of the mark to be called upscale and I do not think that the pricey menu items meet the standards required for what they charge. The pitchers of Margarits were $26 and they were just ordinary Margs! Food was fresh and served properly. Atmosphere was ok, the place was pretty noisy. For my buck, Hitching Post, Grappolo and The Porch are much better choices.

Superb quality Mexican food, lovely setting, great service!

After searching unsuccessfully for a Mexican restaurant in the Solvang area, our hotel referred us to Dos Carlitos in Santa Ynez just three miles east. What a lovely dinner experience! They have an elegant indoor dining area, as well as out-door patio for warm summer evenings. The rock shrimp soft tacos were delicious, as well as the chicken quesadillas and their combo dinner. And all had a beautiful presentation. We highly recommend this relatively new restaurant!
