I really liked this place

Serendipitously and quite by accident I had lunch at El Altamirano recently on a Friday and found it very satisfactory. I had the Chile Relleno combo with a crispy beef taco, beans and rice. It was very good. The salsa was exceptionally good, and there were several to choose from ranging from mild to hot. The chips were warmed perfectly and worked great with the salsa. Service was excellent and very prompt. Price and portion size was very reasonable. I've lived in the Goleta area for years but just somehow overlooked this place, now I'm glad I finally tried it. Definitely will be a return customer.

Our family dined at Altamirano's this week. There was only one other table being served at the time. I was stunned at the low quality of the food. My young son ordered a cheese quesadilla. It was microwaved. I ordered beef tacos w rice/beans. Cold and tasteless. My older son ordered chicken taquitos. Cold and didn't contain enough chicken. Guacamole was really an avocado salsa, with chunks of avo and tomato. It tasted as if it had a preservative in it. Our waitress had to be asked three times for a glass of ice. She finally brought back a chilled beer mug. Never again.

I am 60 years old and my mother is 86. We are originally from Los Angeles but have lived on the central cost since the 1970's. My wife and I moved to Santa Maria in 1985 and my mother has been in Goleta since 1978. WE KNOW MEXICAN RESTAURANTS. My mother and I visited Altamirano's for lunch the other day. We both had chicken mole and it was awesome! A very tender thigh and drumstick immersed in just the right flavor and texture of home made mole sauce. The fresh handmade flour tortillas were the perfect compliment. Anyone who is a mole fan at all need not go anywhere else!

I went here with a friend after work on Friday and we both ordered chicken mole from a pleasant waitperson. We received it in a timely fashion and both enjoyed our meals very much. There are plenty of other items on the menu which we're curious about, and so I'm sure we'll be back soon.

Tried the beef alambre & it was superb! Beef, bacon, onions & bell peppers topped with melted cheese & served taco style, over 3 corn tortillas. Generous portion... could have easily made another taco with this portion. Reasonable prices, too. The waitress was friendly, however, she was the only waitress for a packed house of patrons that came after us so service towards the end of our meal was a bit slow, but overall I would recommend you give this place a try. I will definitely be back.

Saturday is Pozole Day !!!

I wait all week long for the Pozole on Saturday. Super Good. Chicken with just the right amount of heat ! Cant miss on the Mole here too for sure. They make there own Mole sauce from scratch which is rare. Most restaurants use a pre made base. YUM ! Owners care alot about their guests !

I am an aficionado of cheese enchiladas, and tried the Enchiladas Rancheras at the Goleta Altamirano's today. They were a revelation. Cheese enchiladas are often heavy, but these were light and delicate. The service was friendly and attentive. I will definitely return.

The chicken mole is enough to make me go back. I also had 2 tacos, the adobado was pritty good (not as good as lillys tacos tho), but i would say pass on the asada, very bland, and a bit fatty. Over all, I'll be back.

Ok stuff. A little understaffed and slow but overall Ok. Parking issues obviously right on Hollister 9-5. Recommended for a sitdown dinner if you have the time over takeout.

I've eaten here several times, and each time I've been very pleased. This is the second Altamirano's, the original is on Milpas. This location is much more airy and spacious, with options to sit at the counter, a couple booths, or freestanding 2 and 4-tops. Lots of chips and salsa are included with the meal. I've enjoyed their seafood tacos and dishes, and also the chile colorado. I had the chile colorado just recently and found the pork tender and the sauce spicy. I've also had the sopes, the order comes with three sopes with choice of chicken or beef. I preferred the beef as it was shredded and seasoned. I've heard good things about the seafood soup, and when I'm in the mood for a very spicy dish and a generous portion I will give it a try. Just remember, atmosphere is nothing fancy. Think of it like eating at the parents of a good friend of yours - comfortable and friendly.

I tried this restaurant in hopes of finding a great new Mexican restaurant. Unfortunately, the food was less than stellar. I oredered a basic enchilada plate and it was quite bland. However, they get credit for having very low prices.
