Andersen’s Danish Bakery & Restaurant, a family owned and operated landmark at 1106 State Street, held a 50th anniversary celebration with a movie showing on April 4th, 2025. When I visit their website I saw this quote that suggests the 50th anniversary should be next year so I am a bit confused…

Our beloved Andersen’s was founded by Alfred Andersen, a Master Chef, Konditor (Baker) and Artist from Denmark. Alfred and Birte (an architect by trade) opened their first bakery on Milpas Street in Santa Barbara in 1976 and moved in 1978 to the beautiful La Arcada on State Street. Original oil paintings grace the walls of the Bakery and Restaurant painted by Alfred, who had the biggest love for people and food. His words were “ Do things right, or don’t do them at all”. Today Alfred’s wife and daughter continue the culinary traditions, mastering them to a new level.
