In March 2022 I posted a message here that the wildly-popular Chick-Fil-A is coming to 4765 Calle Real in Noleta which was then the home of IHOP (now located at 7127 Hollister Avenue in Goleta, near Costco). I took a sneak peek at the property in October 2023 and no construction has started though a perimeter fence has been added. The interior is in suspended animation, mostly unchanged since IHOP departed in August 2022. The furniture, that hosted many a joyous Grand Slam Breakfast over decades, is all still there, but some of the interior equipment had been removed. I stopped by this month and there has been zero construction activity in the last year. Given Chick-Fil-A’s excellent financial status I assume it will open within about 6-12 months after construction begins, which starts who-knows-when.

Traffic at turnpike & calle real is already snarled at times due to the Starbucks car conga line on Calle real. Can”t wait to see traffic-snarl-2025 when the cholesterol-fried chicken goo place opens next door!
In’n’Out is the primary offender in that area. I live in the neighborhood. Between the line on CR and the out of towners who miss the entrance and have to turn around, it’s not great.
I heard they gave up on the location. Too much trouble. I can’t say for sure, though.
It might still happen but the county is giving Chick-fil-A a hard time, the polar opposite of what they did to roll out the red carpet for In-N-Out and Starbucks. The design of the new Noleta Chick-fil-A would allow for 100 car to be queued in the drive through without a single one of them being on the street.
The main complaint I read from the county was the look of the proposed building, which they say didn’t fit the feel of our area. There wasn’t much talk about traffic backup.
You do realize it’s been over 25 years since In-n-out opened right and that it was a protracted discussion? And the Starbucks location was put on deep freeze for well over a decade by the county… Unless you were being facetious…
