Reader Annie sent me a photo of Judge For Yourself Cafe at 1218 Santa Barbara Street that has a “For Sale” sign in the window. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a for-sale sign in a restaurant window in Santa Barbara.

Sal has been there forever. Guess his daughter doesn’t want to take over? Great little hole in the wall. I hope whoever buys it keeps it the same. Wish they were on the delivery apps.
This is a great little spot and I always enjoyed meeting people for bfast there. It’s a uniquely Santa Barbara.
I noticed they were closed for a few days recently and seemed to be doing some renovation on the interior.
I have always fantasized about this place- I wanted to own it and call it “5 to 2” as its the perfect spot for breakfast and lunch.
I used to eat breakfast there several times a week back in the 90’s and later. Always great food and service. Sad to many of the older establishments closing.
