Reader Henrietta recently told us that she heard that Giovanni’s Pizza is trying to reopen in Isla Vista. Rincon Brewery replaced Giovanni’s at 6583 Pardall Road in Isla Vista in May 2017 and then Rockfire Grill took over that address for a few years. After some digging I discovered that there is a grain of truth to this story. A pizzeria is going to open at 6583 Pardall Road, and they tried to open under the Giovanni’s brand with the Giovanni’s menu, but were not able to get the rights to use the locally-legendary name. I am told that the young entrepreneur behind the operation will create a different brand and open there in the near future.
