Reader Steve C. says that there is a rumor going around that the Shake Shack plans to open somewhere in the Funk Zone. Shake Shack is an American fast casual restaurant chain based in New York City. It started out as a hot dog cart inside Madison Square Park in 2001, and its popularity steadily grew. Since its founding, it has been one of the fastest-growing food chains, eventually becoming a public company filing for an initial public offering of stock in 2014. Shake Shack Inc. owns and operates over 400 locations globally.

Not a big fan of this franchise. These type of chains should be banned from the funk zone in favor of smaller regional operations. Large corporate restaurant chains should be downtown State St. on the northwest side of 101.
