Here is an inquiry from reader Pat G.:
What is happening at the former restaurant Beachside at Goleta Beach. We miss it very much. We were there for their last two nights. Heard it was going to become Sea Legs and then nothing more. Where is the manager: Simon?
I know the name was changed to The Ellwood but I haven’t stopped by since it was hammered by storms last winter. I’ll check it out.
Construction is in progress. Workers were there when I biked by it on Monday.
I don’t know when “The Elwood” is scheduled to open but I do know Simon is currently managing “Anchor Rose” located above the Maritime Museum at the harbor. The menu is similar to the former “Beachside” and the views are wonderful.
I miss it so much too! Last I heard the building was severely compromised by being on the beach all those years and that damp seeped into the rebar and other important things to its’ integrity. Had to do a total renovation putting the opening way back.
Please keep us posted The Elwood. Not a very sexy name and no connection to beach, seafood or the ocean. Name should be rethought. It is no relation to Rosewood (Mira Mar).
Hoping for reopening of former Beachside very soon.

Like Garth, I’ve been by on my bike 3 times in the past 10 days. After no activity for a few weeks, they have been busy those last 3 visits. Guesstimating a late fall opening.
John – do u recall the name of the buffet style restaurant that was on State St many years ago – may have been mid to late nineties?
Scandi Buffet was on de la vina. Don’t remember one on State
There was a place like Souplantation but it was called something else… Fresh Choice? Around State & De La Guerra, east side. Pre-Paseo Nuevo, I believe, so a little earlier.
Yep, it was Fresh Choice.
Are you thinking of the Copper Penny? many years ago…
