Reader Renee R. spotted architecture board of review plans for 1212 Coast Village Road in Montecito, the former home of Cava, that suggest Clark’s Oyster Bar will be the next tenant. Googling their name reveals the eatery currently has locations in Austin, Texas and Aspen, Colorado. They are described as “a neighborhood spot with a great raw bar, house-baked sourdough, fresh fish, lobster rolls, pan-roasted hamburgers, and tasty libations.”

An upscale chain replaces a nice local hangout.
Great.
What was the circumstance of Cava closing?
I’ve been to Clarks in Austin and excited about them opening here.
We ate at Clark’s Oyster Bar in Austin in early April. My wife’s halibut was over-the-top excellent. Their burger was pretty darn good too.
Only bummer was one bad oyster; I paid the bill, then paid the price with 2 days of food poisoning. Clark’s was very accomodating, refunding the price of the entire meal sans waiter’s tip. (Fair!) But a bad oyster can turn up anywhere, so it wasn’t Clark’s fault.
more chains? why did cavas close?
It’s my understanding Cava decided to close due to their landlord tripling their rent. 🙁 Miss that place…
I’m not sure 3 restaurants qualifies for a chain.
We all miss cavas–the food, the fun, that fireplace. It was amazing. don’t know about that chain coming in though.
We have some “chain” restaurants here like Jeanines, South Coast Deli, Three Pickles, Ca Dario….maybe more of a non local thing. If one of these opens elsewhere I suppose the locals might be bent.
