The Black Sheep “SB Brasserie” had a soft opening at 18 East Cota Street tonight to give the place a test drive and the years of experience by management and team members made for as perfect an evening as one can hope for. Food and service was excellent and the new California French pub was packed with a lively crowd. Black Sheep built a cult following on Ortega Street over the years and when the building they were in was sold they were forced to relocate and their new home around the corner from Joe’s Cafe is stylish and welcoming.

Guests arriving on this opening night tried the Tasting Menus which includes a 4-course menu with multiple dishes with each course. It is served family-style for $65/person. Tonight’s offering included Vegan Pumpkin Soup with Apples; Oxtail Ragout over Panisse with Remoulade and Tapenade; Tuna Crudo with radish, orange, tobiko and tamari; Hand Made Cavatelli with Mushrooms and Sherry; Pork Belly Choucroute with Sausage; Steelhead trout with beluga lentils and red wine jus; Steak Frites; Chocolate Decadence torte with Mousse and Kumquat; and Olive Oil Cake with Rhubarb and Stracciatella cheese.
