BUDDHA BOWLS IS NOW DANK BOWL KITCHEN

I was biking with my son in Isla Vista for a special Halloween party for kids and noticed that Buddha Bowls at 901 Embarcadero Del Mar is now known as “Dank Bowl Kitchen.” Buddha Bowls opened in December 2013. Apparently owner Daniel Dunietz kept facing customer confusion because Buddha Bowls is a name used for vegetarian dishes and suggests the cuisine is inspired by Eastern traditions. The eatery offers neither. Dunietz says he originally chose the name “Buddha Bowls” because in Chicago, where he is from, the term is interchangeable with weed. He switched to Dank Bowl Kitchen because dank is a slang term describing something as “excellent,” especially marijuana, and it leaves the other connotations behind.
