A new restaurant named Casa Comal, offering tacos and seafood, had a test opening today at 505 State Street, the former home of Crazy Jim’s Tacos y Mas (2020-2021), Ana’s Taco Bar (2014-2020), Mad Dogs (2006-2014), and Open Door (1980s). The eatery then closed until their grand opening which is planned for next week. A rumor once suggested that this business might be an offshoot of Corazon Cocina but I am now told that the new eatery is not affiliated.
“We make gourmet tacos, ceviche tostadas, deep fried quesadillas, and more,” says chef Abraham Sandin. “We will have some Mexican sushi coming soon on weekends.” Sandin tells me that owner of Casa Comal hopes to open a second restaurant on west Carrillo Street later this year. Casa Comal is open daily 10:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m.
Here is an early draft of the menu. Final offerings and prices may be different.

Stopped by today. Very nice people. Tacos were good as well. It would be nice to have an affordable place like this succeed on State Street so I wish them well!
Found the actual menu online couple days ago. ( https://www.casacomalcocina.com ) Placed an pick up order from their website too. The tacos were amazing. They do have really good veggie tacos, way better than many other taco places. Next Time I’ll try their Taco Tuesday Deal. $10.95 for two tacos and a beer. i don’t really drink beer but hear you can choose something else to drink instead of beer.
