Reader Ted let me know that Vons Chicken at 955 Embarcadero del Mar in Isla Vista, once the home of Sweet Alley, has closed. The restaurant which was opened in November 2019 by 2019 UCSB alumna Sophie Xu, was a San Jose-based franchise that served 10 different renditions of authentic Korean fried chicken. Around the same time Xu opened Vons Chicken she also opened four other local eateries including Uniboil, Phresh Teas, Kaiju Ramen & Curry, and SU’S Bowl (Chinese food), that are still in business.
