Los Agaves offshoot coming to upper State

Last month I wrote that 3771 State Street, the former home of Dunkin’ Donuts, Taco Bell, and Char West, will be the future address of a Mexican restaurant that focuses on traditional-style tacos. The property has been vacant since December 2020 and remodeling has begun.  Sources now tell me that this new Mexican eatery will be run by Carlos Luna, owner of the hugely popular Los Agaves restaurants as well as Santo Mezcal on lower State Street. I am told that the new restaurant will not be a Los Agaves but will fly under a different banner and focus on tacos as earlier sources suggested. If the future uptown dining destination brings the quality of the other Luna properties, this new cantina should be spectacular.

now that the pandemic closed sharky’s in goleta(and their ventura store is too far), we need an organic taco joint next to whole foods. please mr. luna, make it organic to really stand out in an already crowded taco town. i live in this hope neighborhood and would be your best customer.
