Alphie’s closes, property up for sale

Reader Heidi let me know that she saw a For Sale sign at Alphie’s restaurant, 5725 Hollister Avenue in Goleta. The eatery was started more than four decades ago by Albert and Ophie Tagatac. “Alphie” is a combination of their first names. The Old Town Goleta icon closed at the onset of the pandemic and was not able to reopen under the umbrella of COVID-19 rules so the family decided to sell their property, retire, and move to Colorado. The real estate, which has a rental in the back, is not yet listed but might be priced at around $1.5 million. Berkshire Hathaway will be handling the transaction.

How sad. I only went there a couple times but it was such a homey place, friendly people and an atmosphere that mixed old-school diner with tiki. I hope the silver lining is that they were able to retire happily.

So very sad. I loved Alphie’s

  3. Ev Weddle says:

Alphie’s was the BEST!!! Super bummed. Happy to hear they are retiring tho!

  4. Peter says:

Wishing them both a well deserved retirement!
Not sure what the parking situation at this location is like, but this would be a great place for a Blenders. A quality Chinese restaurant such as Red Ginger would also do well.

Limited parking, so an Uber makes it easy, but anything you can swing an Axxess Book at would be enticing there. They deserve the best in retirement!

    They will be missed !
