For the first time since 1995, the year that I inaugurated SantaBarbara.com, The Restaurant Guy has launched a new online destination. StateStreetPromenade.com went live today, offering information about some of the restaurants, bars, breweries, and shopping available at our popular new pedestrian mall.
Ever since local businesses were allowed to expand onto sidewalks and into streets earlier this year, infusing a sense of energy and vitality, I have been inundated with emails from tourists asking about the changes taking place downtown. My standard reply has been that this COVID-19 restructuring was likely temporary.
That thinking changed in mid-July when I celebrated my wedding anniversary with The Restaurant Gal at Sandbar, 514 State Street. Dining literally on State Street was amazing and it started to dawn on me that this new urban revelry might not go away after all so I made the not-very-romantic move of buying the aforementioned domain name at our table while enjoying Fajitas de Sandbar and the Jalisco Shrimp Quesadilla.
I chose “State Street Promenade” because I have used the term for decades on SantaBarbara.com where much of the early content was written by a lady who had just moved here from Wisconsin and that’s what she thought we called the downtown area. Perhaps now we do.
Food for thought at Sandbar, 514 State Street
