I recently reported that rumors suggested Breakfast Culture Club at 711 Chapala Street had closed and was being replaced by another coffee shop. The web site and voice mail for Breakfast Culture Club said they are open for business as usual. Readers Primetime and Steve H. let me know that a letter from Breakfast Culture Club has now appeared in the window:
“It’s with a heavy heart that we won’t be opening after Thanksgiving. It’s been an amazing 3 & 1/2 years of coffee, art shows, concerts, poetry readings, movie nights and everything in-between. It has been nothing short of an honor to serve this community as a hub for creativity and a space for anyone to come and relax, study and socialize! Each and every one of you helped make this place what it is, and for that I thank you. Watch this place as something new will be opening up soon… and always keep creating, sharing, and loving. – Morgan & the Breakfast crew”
It’s always sad when a locally owned place closes down. I think their business model (at least in the very beginning) was super confusing, though.
I went about one month after they opened expecting it to be a breakfast place. Name was just Breakfast back then and the neon sign said…Breakfast. They only had coffee and said their food was going to be “trickling in”
I don’t really know what that meant and I wanted to support them but I just never went back. Can’t help but think a lot of other people didn’t get it either. It’s only in recent months that I get what they were doing. Makes me sad that I never gave them a second chance, but you know what they say about first impressions….
