Reader Joe tells me that We Cook at 901 Embarcadero Del Mar #100, has closed and that a new restaurant named Su’s Bowl is now open at that address, and under new ownership. Last June I wrote that 2019 UC Santa Barbara alumna Sophie Xu had purchased Sweet Alley at 955 Embarcadero del Mar in Isla Vista and planned to transform it into Vons Chicken, a San Jose-based franchise that serves over 10 different renditions of authentic Korean fried chicken. Read Joe says Vons Chicken is now open and that Sophie Xu is also the owner of Su’s Bowl. Apparently Xu is building a local empire as she also owns Uniboil in Old Town Goleta and I am told that she has a fourth restaurant in her sights.
