ALITO’S CLOSES AFTER 4 MONTHS IN BUSINESS

Alito’s Mexican restaurant, founded by Ali Ahlstrand, co-owner of Mollie’s restaurant, opened in April of this year at 509 State Street, in the former home of Cadiz. Unfortunately the eatery closed on August 18th. Mollie’s continues to be in business as usual.

I wanted to try this place but their menu put me off. I don’t think Mollie’s is destined to last too much longer on State St. either.

  2. Jim says:

According to the MJ the problem was that he couldn’t get a cheap liquor license. Also that Mollie is going to have to help cover some of the loss and not doing well at lunch up at Mollies.

  3. Magnolia says:

Cadiz is sorely missed indeed! Replaced by another mediocre Mexican restaurant…I’m not surprised it closed.

  4. JPR says:

Ate dinner there once. The food was mediocre. The service was great. The place was empty. No surprise that it’s closing and I don’t think a “cheap liquor license” is the problem. Cadiz is missed!

This is an odd location. It’s one of those that SEEMS like it could do great because of the tourist path and also a lot more local tech businesses are moving downtown to that area.

But the menu was convoluted and it’s set back enough from the sidewalk that it looks closed unless there’s a lot of people in there. I would walk past this almost daily and there would be no host outside or no menu on display and if it was quiet, it genuinely looked closed.

    Too bad it closed. 🙁
