This just in from reader Evan:
There’s activity at the old Outback location [at 5690 Calle Real] in Goleta. Any idea what is going into that space?
Maybe a Hooters is going in where the old Outback was located. 😉
Lurv me some Hooters!
They are breaking it up in to 2-3 spaces. 10000sq ft is a lot of space to fill!
I think it’s only 6200 sq feet
I stand corrected, but I do know they are prepping it to break it into 2-3 spots.
Excellent! Room for a Starbucks, a pizzeria and an artisanal, farm to table, vegan Mexican restaurant.
What’s wrong with Pizza Rex?
Nothing wrong with Pizza, but we seem to have a lot of pizzerias, with new ones opening all the time.
I would have thought you would have said room for a BBQ joint.
No, that need has been met by SoulCal at the Public Market or whatever it’s called. Santa Barbara now has BBQ covered. Unfortunately, though, most new places are Starbucks, pizza palaces, or “artisanal” Mexican joints.
If you look at the matter from an economic perspective there is nobody in this town willing to take the plunge and put a restaurant in there because the cost of getting in the door is so high and the permitting process is so difficult. Calle Real Center is expensive to lease commercial space and they do not make it easy on people. It would take too many years to make any profit and its a bad business move in all directions. Its time to look inward and fix the permitting system and lower the cost of commercial space. Do something to attract prospective business.
Maybe the owner of Sushi Teri, Nikka Grill, Nikka Market, Nikka Ramen and Masala Spice can open a………..Korean BBq?
Rumor has it that the Goleta Outback was paying the second highest rent of all the nationwide Outbacks.
