LOCAL EATERIES INCLUDED IN CALIFORNIA MICHELIN GUIDE

Readers Dugan and Annie tell me that 2019 Michelin Bib Gourmand Guide is out. I’m hearing that the book’s “Bib Gourmand” designation is reserved for those restaurants “that serve high-quality meals which include two courses and a glass of wine or dessert for $40 or less” and that Santa Barbara’s Mesa Verde and Sama Sama Kitchen were included. I’ll put out an update if more restaurants are announced in other categories.

  1. Dugan says:

Mesa Verde much deserves its recognition :
It is good, creative, fresh and more than reasonably priced.
I see them every Saturday morning pulling a big cart full of crates full of fresh, local, seasonal veggies.
Congrats to them ! And please, keep going !

Yes! And in addition to the Bibb Gourmand, several SB restaurants received the recognition of a Plate award. Santa Barbara is on the map at last. Those restaurants can be viewed at the link Jonathan posted.

  2. Gary Sudder says:

not surprising nothing won in montecito or sb earned even 1 star. the food in SB/Mtco is appalling poor, and/or overpriced Italian, or French/American “cuisine.” Someone/something needs to rescue the SB/Mtco resto scene and get some real culinary expertise and service excellence.

How many burger places can one take, or phony ratings of the best this, or the best that, ‘world’ famous etc…typical us hustler tactics.

    • Dugan says:

      Totally agree with you.
Food scene around here is dismal, with clearly no aspiration, motivation of capability of shooting higher.
Distressing even more so given the incredible wealth distribution in some segments of the population !
