That’s too bad that their rent was raised like that. Didn’t that happen to Giovanni’s the other year?
I read on Noozhawk that someone who was a business person who had an office nearby said they “never integrated into the community.” I don’t know why they’d say that considering they contributed to fundraisers, hosted meetups and had affordable, smooth coffee.
I live in Montecito and I didn’t go there every day, but I will still miss them. It seems like the takeover with “independent” chains from LA is nearly complete. I got a free coupon in the mail for Cafe Luxxe the other week but the latte I would order at CBTL was $4.50 vs $8 there.
A new tenant is already signed to take over the space. Details soon.
Noozhawk is saying Mess Burger maybe

I hate to say, but I hope not (yet). I’m a huge fan of mesa burger, but rapid expansion is death for places like this. Make sure you get it right at camino real, work out all the kinks of doing this again, and then you will have a better idea how to repeat the process for the future.
