Reader Primetime let me know that  Crush Tasting Room and Kitchen that opened last September at 432 East Haley Street has a new name: Uncorked Wine Tasting and Kitchen. They have a new web site too, online at I’m told they had a rebranding party last week. Co-owner Michael Amador says Uncorked is pouring 20 wines (19 Central Coast and 1 Napa) through a wine dispensing system which keeps them fresh, and allows patrons to have a taste, a half glass, or a full glass. He also brought in local beer, cider and kombucha on tap, including Draughtsmen, Captain Fatty’s Rincon and others. Uncorked is open 3-8 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday-Saturday. Call 690-4590.

Can someone share why they had to change the name?

  2. vt says:

Maybe investors didn’t like the name. Fantastic menu, but wines tend to be inferior, sad

Crushcakes lawyers threatened to sue them and wouldn’t negotiate/budge. Not very neighborly. Hard to imagine confusion between wine and cupcakes. I won’t be patronizing Crushcakes anymore.

    • Joey Jo-Jo Junior Shabadoo says:

When they opened I figured it was owned by the Crushcakes folks. Their business seems a lot less focused on the cupcakes (which aren’t good) these days and more on the cafe side of things. So not all they crazy. After learning Crush has nothing to do with Crushcakes I figured this lawyer posturing would be coming shortly and here we are. Pretty strange they didn’t see this coming when choosing the name, it’s a smallish town.

Depends on intentions and trademarks….and who is willing and able to fight.

  5. Hefe says:

There are businesses all over the country named Crush from restaurants, bars lounges, winery, fitness. I did a trademark search and crushcafe was applied for and abandoned in 2010 likely because there are many other businesses already using the name. Crushcakes is registered and live owned by the local Crushcake people Crush Foods Inc.
Crush Wine Co. and Crush Wine and Spirits both live with a company in New York.

So Crushcakes likely had no legal standing to dispute the name but the NY company would but due to possible confusion the name change was the right thing to do.
I guess I had too much time on my hands this morning!
