CHAPLIN’S CLOSES, SUSHI IN THE WORKS?

Word on the street is that Chaplin’s Martini Bar, which opened last September at 1295 Coast Village Road in Montecito (replacing Frankland’s Crab & Co. in the Montecito Inn which opened last April), has close it’s doors. Reader Annie says that plastic covers the inside of the windows and that the interior has been stripped back to bare flooring. “Staff says that the owners are turning it into a Sushi spot,” says reader Kevin. “They also own SushiBar in LA so hopefully it’s amazing.”

What happened to the concept with $400 dinners eating and drinking off pure gold. No takers?

Wrong place, that’s the Silver Bough which has only been open less than a month now.

This is being spun as another new exciting restaurant from a successful chef who just can’t stop opening new places! (Reality is all his ventures in that space have failed and this is just another concept for the spot)

    • Lily says:

The menu for Silver Bough looks quite impressive. The problem is that the chefs are still very young and they came out of no where and charge a price tag on par with 3 Michelin Stars restaurants.

I was told the last day it was open was the hotel was taking it over.

Sushi makes more sense for that location. One can do it well in a very small space and turn over far more tables than a $18+ martini bar. My guess is they’ll do great with Sushi.

I confirmed with the chefs at Sushi Bar LA this past weekend that they are indeed bring a sushi restaurant into that spot! They are aiming to open sometime in April.

Ahh Chef Phillip from Top Chef season 13… how could anyone take this guy seriously?!
