QUESTION OF THE DAY

“I’m trying to track down family members related to the original owners of the Swiss Echo restaurant in West LA at Pico and Westwood Blvd. The proprietors were Jeannette Ohme and her niece & nephew Jeannette & Paul Codoni.   I’ve been told they moved up to Goleta in the early 80s and opened a Swiss restaurant up there – does this ring any bells with anyone?  Cheers, Randy”

    Dutch Gardens?

  2. peter says:

I believe it was called the “Swiss Chalet”, located near the recently closed OSH and next to the Santa Barbara Chicken Ranch & Panda Kitchen.

  3. BRS says:

Wasn’t there a Swiss buffet restaurant on De la Vina? I believe it is now a Mexican restaurant.

  4. peter says:

De la Vina Street housed the Skandi Buffet, which was (duh) a skandinavian which is now Los Agaves.

  5. Bob says:

The Swiss Chalet was a favorite of ours, Peter didcribed the location perfectly. It was run by an older Swiss couple

  6. Sylvia says:

I believe the name of the place near OSH was Cafe Suisse. I only know that because a Swiss friend of mine took me there often…the older couple were friends of his parents. And I once talked them out of their delicious salad dressing recipe.

    • Jim says:

Sylvia is correct for the one on the corner of the building next to OSH. The only Swiss Chalet was the A frame at the Twin Lakes Golf Course back in the day and I never heard of one since, least of all across from Cafe Suisse.

  7. Bob says:

I was wrong! It was Cafe Suisse. I loved that place.
