BOSSIE’S KITCHEN IS MOOVING IN

Reader Jennifer says that a sign for Eloise LLC has appeared at 901 North Milpas Street, the famous building with a cow on the roof, and the former home of Mundos, Sublime, Cities Barbecue, and City Kitchen.  I recently wrote that Mundos sold their business to chefs Lauren Herman and Christina Olufson who are planning a new restaurant there but I did not know the name. It appears that Eloise LLC has filed a fictitious business name statement to open a restaurant at 901 North Milpas Street using the name Bossie’s Kitchen.

Hope it’s a bargain priced BBQ place with free flowing (aka free refills) fountain beverages

We chose the name “Bossie’s Kitchen” wanting to embrace the beloved cow, after searching for information regarding the building’s history in SB.

    Historic Context:
“The 1939 Live Oak Dairy was constructed on Milpas Street, a streetscape that combined industrial, commercial, and residential buildings. … The owners bought a plaster cow from Alfred Kuhn, a sculptor from Yukaipa, California, for $1000 and placed it on the roof over the entrance. Parents would bring the children on Sundays to the soda fountain and to see the cow. The cow was known as Old Bossy.”

In regards to the menu, we plan to offer a variety of options: fresh salads, hot and cold side dishes, garlic-herb roasted chicken, sandwiches on home-made bread, and more from our kitchen utilizing the county’s locally grown produce. We’ll also have some of my favorite desserts: churros y chocolate, cookies, layer cakes, and brioche donuts.

We hope to see you soon!

Here’s a link to a really interesting in-depth site that tells you pretty much everything about the building and its history. I’m glad to see that Bossie’s name is being honored.
