This just in from reader Gary: “John, I don’t know if you’ve already reported this but I was told yesterday by a Biltmore employee that the hotel and restaurants will now not reopen until the summer because of the damage from the mudslides. I think they were hoping to reopen earlier. He also said the San Ysidro Inn reopening could be a year — or even two years — away.”

The original opening date for the Biltmore was April 2nd and my call to Four Seasons reveals that it was indeed moved to June.

After promising to keep paying their employees during the closure and even paying their health insurance it looks like Ty has gone back on his word. Most of the staff was laid off yesterday . The health insurance also ends soon. This information pertains to the guest ranch. Not sure about the Biltmore

I am sorry to hear this.

To know that the Ranch was saved from the Thomas Fire only to succumb to the Debris Flow is terribly sad- made worse with this news. I worked at SYR well before Ty Warner owned it and it was a pleasure- surely he has a heavy heart tonight as well- and I hope he had news for the employees about when they can possibly find their jobs ready for them- I hear its 2 years off.
