Last week I wrote that Max’s Restaurant & Cucina, a longtime breakfast/brunch/lunch institution at 3514 State Street will be closing towards the end of this month after 33 years in business.  Proprietor Henrietta Forystek is retiring after a long career there, starting as an employee and then becoming owner. I am hearing the business was sold and the Max’s will be replaced by Sunshine Café which will be open for breakfast and lunch. The owners are first-time restauranteurs and I am told that they did not buy Max’s wine & beer license.

Anyone know if this is related to the Sunshine Cafe in Santa Monica?

Eliminate of the chartreuse green roof facade treatment. It looks awful. Is not Santa Barbara. Lite Yellow would be better, if you looking for a sunshine effect.

forget the roof mansard thang, that horrible green on metal and rotting plywood, come on, wake up, a soft subdued treatment would work, consult someone with common sense, meanwhile me and ma’ family won’t be eating there til’ you fix it………hey maybe it’s just an undercoat primer ?
wow, that must be it, my apologies……………..kip

Very disappointed. Pricey, and mediocre. Biscuits were tough, not fluffy. Hash browns were dry and burned. Omelette was greasy and tasteless. Staff is very friendly, but they need to get a good cook.

Even with Max’s–the food was not very good there. Like an afterthought, lower quality ingredients, canned stuff. Is that an american thing? Hopefully, this sunshines diner can improve vastly. thank you.
