This just in from Max’s Restaurant & Cucina at 3514 State Street:

“Max’s Restaurant & Cucina, a longtime breakfast/brunch/lunch institution, as well as the home of many winemaker dinners, will be closing towards the end of this month after 33 years in business.  Proprietor Henrietta Forystek is retiring after a long career there, starting as an employee and then becoming owner.  For a very short while, you can still enjoy the fluffiest omelets and best French toast in town to start your day, and then end with an upscale Italian meal and excellent reserve wine list for dinner.  Hurry to enjoy your last visit at Max’s, 3514 State, St., (805) 898-9121. Open daily for breakfast/lunch, Tuesday-Saturday for dinner.”

I’m so sorry to hear this, I don’t go there often but whenever I do, I thin–Wow, i need to come here more often! Their food is good quality and prepared well. The last time I had a ham & cheddar omelet and it was practically perfect in every way. Also they have hosted many comedy shows with Carol Metcalf and I was honored to do a set there once. Henrietta and the staff are lovely people. I’m glad it’s retirement rather than failing business. I know nothing about running a restaurant, but wonder if there’s a possibility to sell the existing Max’s to someone who could keep it up?

So sad! Henrietta is so sweet! She’s been generous to our nonprofit over the years and I always love going there. Will be sad to see Max’s go… But wishing Henrietta all the best in her retirement!
