ROSE CAFÉ CLOSES… THEN REOPENS

In January of last year I reported that the family that owns Rose Cafe at 424 East Haley Street has decided to close the restaurant in 2021 which will be the eatery’s 85th year in business. But as ash fall from the Thomas Fire kept potential customers at home, the family decided to close the business for good last December 20. Fortunately Santa Barbara Independent reporter D.J. Palladino says this story has a happy ending. Palladino reports that George Guevara, grandson of Agnes Guevara, the Matriarch Of The Rose Café who passed away in 2014, decided he wanted to reopen the place. I’m told that Guevara reopened on January 6, less than three weeks after closing. “I promise I didn’t change anything, except to make it a little better,” said Guevara.
