Readers tell me that something’s up at Our Daily Bread, 2700 De la Vina Street:

  • Reader Jan T: “John, there’s a rumor that Our Daily Bread has closed. Can that be true? I hope not!”
  • Reader Peter: “John, Our Daily Bread  bakery/restaurant appears to be closed. Sign on window announcing same and a peek in the window reveals empty shelves and the like.”
  • Reader Patrick: “John, there’s a sign in the window of Our Daily Bread that they have closed the Cafe but that the wholesale bakery will remain open.”
  • Reader Suzanne: “I saw a sign on the door at Our Daily Bread that their cafe is now closed, though they remain open for their wholesale bread accounts.  Do you have any inside information about whether or not they plan to make a comeback?  I wonder if this closure is also due to the fire, like it was for C’est Cheese Cafe.”

Pretty much saw this coming with the hipster crowds flocking to Handlebar and their Yelp rating down to 3&1/2 compared to Handlebars’ 4&1/2 and 5 (Trip Adviser). Since Handlebar gets their croissants from Renaud’s and lattes are a buck more we just go to Renaud’s or The Daily grind.

They’ve been in business over 25 years. Hard to speculate. Maybe they are looking to simplify? I doubt the Handlebar in its short existence forced them out.

Ironic if this closure and C’est Cheese closure are really due to the same causes, given that C’est Cheese booted ODB from their previous location.
