While at La Cumbre Plaza I stopped by Islands Restaurant which is coming to the former home of Marmalade Cafe. Construction appears to be about half way done and workers tell me that the kitchen is nearly done. It looks like an early 2018 opening is likely. Thanks to reader Cris for the tip.

There is an Islands in Monterey – part of a pretty large chain. They feature beer and burgers, heavy on the Hawaiian theme. Their burgers are in the $13-14 range – I wonder how they can compete withHabit just across the parking lot?

Islands is fun and great for kids. Good addition to the mall, way more accessible for families than Marmalade.

Great family place and great hospitality. They’ll do great in Sb. We don’t have kids and have always loved their food and easy accessible menu. Cross fingers with Lure we can bring Le Cumbre Mall back !

  4. Charlotte says:

YES! Islands is going to kill it in La Cumbre Plaza! The tortilla soup and ultra sublime fries are worth the wait.

Islands is a great chain with consistent food at affordable prices. Growing up in Burbank, we used to go to Islands a lot — it’s been there for 20+ years probably. The burgers are really good, soft tacos are tasty, bottomless fries, ton of beer on tap served in a frosty mug and of course, a full bar of sugary tiki type drinks. They also have a ton of TV’s to catch games on.

As someone else pointed out, the endless bowl of tortilla soup is also great.
