THE NUGGET IN CARPINTERIA CLOSES

Reader Diane let me know that The Nugget in Carpinteria has closed permanently. I called the business and confirmed the news. The restaurant opened in June 2016. Other Nugget locations are still available including Summerland, Goleta and downtown Santa Barbara.

Bummer, excellent margaritas, limited vegetarian menu. Location is cursed

    • Admin says:

Seemed to me that they functioned on booze – their food was limited

    • Michele says:

Nah, the location isn’t cursed. There have been restaurants there that lasted the better part of a decade and a half! What short memories people have.

This place was really awful, though. It was like an afterthought in the Nugget collection. Bad service, mediocre food. Good place to have a drink, though.

We in Carp have very few truly good places that are geared towards repeat, non-seasonal business. The next place that goes in here would do well to cater (no pun) to locals and make a limited but excellent menu and not try to do way too much and not get it right.

    That didn’t take long.

The Nugget downtown on W. Victoria Street also seems to be foundering. They no longer are open for lunch on weekdays, citing lack of business as the reason.

  4. Chaz says:

They should invite “Bubba” to visit the locations and blow his sax.
    Was good for business once.

The location sees heavy turnover because it’s nothing original, keep putting similar types there that the town already had and you’re going to fail…carp is a small town with a limited customer base, especially not during the summer, so make yourself stand out a bit, provide something no other place does.

Enjoyed the fact that they had potato skins in town (only place) and had some lunches there, food was adequate, the ‘regular lunch drinkers’ were loud, obnoxious, and offensive, and the staff spent more time socializing with them than actually working

Sad this space can’t make something stick. I used to frequent Cabos all the time. Started going back occasionally when it was the Nugget, but I prefer the one in Summerland anyways. I wonder if rent is a factor too? Most spaces in Carp see such a drastic decrease in business during the winter, I imagine it’s hard to make it through. Heck, even some of the stable places close early/certain days/ entire months because locals alone don’t drum up enough business.

The Nugget is Sysco truck fare.
