Reader Mary and others tell me that Cody’s Cafe at 4898 Hollister Avenue in Goleta has a huge sign outside that reads “Open Daily 6 a.m. – 9 p.m.” Previously the sign said they were serving dinner Tuesday – Saturday only. In June Cody’s dropped dinner entirely and it has been slowly making a comeback due to popular demand.

So, my family went to this restaurant bi weekly or more. This has occurred for over ten years. We had birthdays, Easters, pre-play dinners. Our children grew up going to Cody’s. I personally have had some great experiences at the bar, the booths and outside. Things started to change around Jan. Food became less consistent in quality and warmth. Service became lax, but we kept trying hoping we could find the groove again. We took a break and found other restaurants that suited our needs. Then we read on this blog that they sold the liquor license. I thought this was a joke! We all found out that it was no joke. I thought, this must be a change in approach! Maybe they will reorganize? After Dinner was canceled, I was convinced that new owners have given Cody’s a huge change to their customers regular experience. Very sad. My family misses Codys as it had been for decades. Unfortunately, because of the dinner and alcohol change, Codys needs to figure out who they are. There are many restaurants in Santa Barbara! To mess with your customer base and think you’ll survive is a poor business opinion, in my humble opinion.

I couldn’t have said that better. I’ve noticed exactly the same things you describe, which raises the question: WHY? Is there new ownership? What’s going on at Cody’s these days defies logic.
