Last month Creekside Bar & Grill at 4444 Hollister Avenue in Noleta, one of Santa Barbara’s most famous bars, changed the name to Boondocks. Readers Mark and Annie tell me that Boondocks has now closed, after 37 days in business, and had its last night on Saturday, February 6. I called the phone number on Boondocks’ web site and the number is disconnected. I have not had a chance to stop by and independently confirm this.

I don’t understand why some people take over a popular business and change the name. Being open for only 37 days before closing is a JOKE. I can only imagine that a few people, if any at all, visited during that long run of business. I bet that if they had kept the name “Creekside”, they’d still be open. It was a popular bar, not a great one, but had a loyal customer base. I’ve been several times, and had a fun time whenever I went. Hopefully someone takes ownership and puts the name back and hopefully people will return.

Such a great location too. If they parked a Santa Maria BBQ in the parking lot and cleaned up the place who knows?$$.

Now THAT’S the best idea I’ve heard all year! Even better, now that it’s apparently up for grabs again, someone should turn it into a dedicated barbecue restaurant. If you think that a BBQ restaurant isn’t needed here, notice that of the 12 John Dickson reviews for Woody’s (our ONLY local BBQ restaurant), 11 are negative–not just negative, but VERY negative–and the sole non-negative review is by someone from Mission Viejo, who is promoting his own commercial home grill. The Creekside is a perfect BBQ venue.

The best BBQ in town is a food truck, I love Georgia’s.

Excellent BBQ at the recently opened Wildwood Kitchen!

Woody’s is the best BBQ in SB and oh by the way, it is the worst BBQ in the country. Guess that is what happens when you are the only one in town, you are the best. Georgia’s, Dickey’s (opening soon) and Wildwood don’t have beef ribs, so that still leaves Woody’s as the best in town. I gave Wildwood a few chances, I didn’t like it and likely wont go back. Dickey’s has good BBQ and I will go there, but I hate to admit it I still go to Woody’s for beef ribs occasionally. They can be very good and so bad, I would not even feed the ribs to my dogs and its not the kitchen staff either, I have been there with the same guy cooking and had garbage or good food.

I would LOVE a decent BBQ place at the Creekside location, I could walk there daily.

There was a dedicated BBQ restaurant in the back building at Boondocks: JR’s BBQ at Creekside. It was open from October 2007 – January 2009. The very best babyback ribs I ever had came from there.

Was so bummed when I heard about the name change and especially the closing of The Bourbon Room – that place had a great following, fantastic food and drinks, and was a great location. I don’t understand how they could have screwed up so bad with the changes they made!

Their facebook pages says they are closed Mon and Tues:

    4:00 pm – 2:00 am

    11:00 am – 2:00 am

    10:00 am – 10:00 pm

Just sorta proves the old adage – “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”

    Great location?

    Boondoggle, more like it.

What happened to The Bourbon Room? Thriving one day, closed the next! Just like the recently closed, La Hacienda, in Old Town Goleta. Does anyone know what happened there? I was there that Sat. Night before they closed for good. It was a very busy, Kereoke night. Manager told me that business couldn’t be better! Only to close the very next day.

I have noticed activity (construction trucks) out front….is there going to be a new tenant? would love to see these two places re open for the neighborhood!

  10. Doug Hart says:

Word has it that David from the Neighborhood now holds the lease and will reopen as the Creekside, slightly classier!
