Last Sunday I drove to a field 1/4 mile south of the city of Kanarraville, Utah (near St. George) to have a mathematically perfect view of the annular eclipse (well, almost perfect – the center line was about 200 yards away on private property). Here are some crude pictures taken by holding an iPhone up to the eyepiece of my 5″ reflector telescope. The solar filter was provided by the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History.

It was about 95 degrees but cooled off dramatically during the eclipse. Crickets were fooled by the relative darkness and started chirping.
