Traci Taitt, Vice President of Commercial Properties at The Towbes Group, called me today to say that a new lease was signed for 2,048-square feet at 5701 Calle Real, the former home of Pick Up Stix. Sunny Pujji, owner of Spice Avenue at 1027 State St. in downtown Santa Barbara, is the lease holder. I spoke with Pujji and he told me that the new restaurant will probably NOT be a Spice Avenue and that he does not know yet what type of cuisine will be served. No opening date has been set for the new Goleta eatery.

But we could REALLY wrap our mouths around an indian restaurant in Goleta!!!

  2. Yvonne says:

Darn, we drive to Flavor of India from Goleta for pickup fairly frequently. I was hoping to be able to get Indian food locally.

  3. Glenn says:

I’m with you Yvonne. We could use a nice Indian place in Goleta, the IV one is passable but not up to par with the SB ones.

  4. kris says:

Glenn, the owners of the IV one are the same owners of Spice Avenue.

  5. Alisa says:

How bout south Indian snack shop? Yuuummmmmmm.

  6. charlotte klein says:

Yes! Goleta NEEDS a great Indian restaurant, not mediocre but great and NOT expensive either! Indian food should not be expensive. Spice is good but needs a bit more heat, otherwise all the other flavor profiles are pretty much spot on! Yes Indian would thrive in Goleta!!! You know we are not a bunch of rubes out here, we need more culinary diversity and done well (most of us can actually tell the difference!) open open open!

  7. Glenn says:

Not sure if you are defending Naan stop or not Kris but its a whole different animal than any other Indian place in town. Naan stop gives you a 1/2 a piece of pita bread with your choice of whatever they have out in hot pots for customers to choose from(not a typical Indian buffet). So even though it may be run by a typical Indian place its really not one but does work well if you want to get something on the run or for students in IV area, I go there occasionally and I like it.

  8. tony says:

i think spice avenue is not authentic indian food i will still prefer flavour of india or naan stop

  9. ANGEL says:

By far the best Indian food in the area and the owners Urmil, sunny, Nancy, Sandy are the nicest people, You need to try the lamb biryani i prefer(HOT) mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
