Veronica Springs Church, formerly known as First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara, are real people, immersed in community, intersecting the world for Jesus.

History

First Baptist Church of Santa Barbara was organized on July 5, 1874 at "Cook's Hall", 125 West Ortega Street. The young church then purchasing a building, and the Presbyterian Church's chapel at the SW corner of Ortega and De la Vina Streets which became home from 1875 to 1882. Needing room to grow over the following decades, the organization bought St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Micheltorena and Anacapa Streets, and later the property at Victoria and Chapala Streets, which eventually became the New Vic Theatre. In 1973 First Baptist Church moved out of the downtown area to be closer to home neighborhoods and chose Veronica Springs Road to be the new location. In 2016, while maintaining a foundation of the church as First Baptist Church, the decision was made to change its name to "Veronica Springs Church."
