First Congregational Church of Santa Barbara was founded in the 1860s. They are a progressive congregation in the United Church of Christ that believes justice is a part of faith.

In 1990 they adopted their Just Peace Statement, affirming their commitment to peace.

In 1999 they adopted their Open & Affirming Statement, intentionally welcoming lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people into the full life and ministry of their congregation.

They are a diverse congregation, expressing a wide variety of beliefs. They are also a family that enjoys welcoming others.
