Gainey Vineyard is a wonderful place to visit - not only is it relatively close to Santa Barbara, but the wines are wonderful, the tasting room is well-designed, the picnic area is large and well-groomed and the staff is well-informed. It is a popular destination for many of the wine country tours because of its spacious tasting room and gorgeous picnic area. The Pinot Noir, Merlot, and Chardonnay consistently shine. Over the years they have won numerous awards. With most prices between $12 and $25 they are an excellent value. Gainey also has the unique distinction of being a summertime concert hall under the stars (more info). They have gone out of their way to really involve the public in their winery.Their line up of wines is smaller than other wineries but it allows the to concentrate on Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Riesling (of which their late harvest Riesling is a must have) Directions: If you take the 101N from Santa Barbara, turn right on 246. The tasting room and main vineyard will be about 8 miles past Solvang on your right. If you prefer to take 154N from Santa Barbara, turn left on 246.
