Funds for individual families

Donations are needed for families who have been devastated by the La Conchita disaster. La Conchita families have lost family members and all of their possessions. There are separate memorial funds set up for each family. Please make checks payable to the *EXACT* name of the family fund.

Ventura County Credit Union - Financial donations will also be accepted Saturday, or they can be deposited into a relief fund set up at the Ventura County Credit Union, 6026 Telephone Road, Ventura, CA.93006. Checks should be made payable to La Conchita Relief.

KVTA AM 1520 has set up a La Conchita Relief Fund at County Commerce Bank, 3260 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA.93003. Checks should be made payable to La Conchita Relief Fund. Donations can also be dropped off at the radio station at 2284 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays.

United Way of Ventura County and the Ventura County Community Foundation have established an emergency relief fund to benefit victims in La Conchita and flooding elsewhere in the county. Each organization will contribute $3,000 to start the relief fund. Individuals, businesses and companies can make donations to VCCF, 1317 Del Norte.Road, Suite 150, Camarillo, CA 93010, or to the United Way, 1317 Del Norte Road, Suite 100, Camarillo, CA 93010. For more information, call 988-0196 or 485-6288.

The American Red Cross is also collecting money to assist those affected by recent storms. Checks should be made payable to the American Red Cross. Somewhere on the check, donors should also state, "Ventura storms," to ensure the money is used locally. Checks can be mailed to P.O. Box 608, Camarillo, CA 93011.

Washington Mutual Bank for Jimmie Wallet - Another account has been set up at Washington Mutual Bank for Jimmie Wallet, whose wife and three daughters were killed in the mudslide. Checks should be made payable to The Wallet Family and can be dropped off at any branch or mailed to Washington Mutual, c/o Jessica or Jennifer, 3498 Telegraph Road, Ventura, CA 93003.

- A funeral service for Vanessa Bryson was held on Monday, January 17th, at 11 a.m. at Christ Gospel Church in Whitesboro, N.J
John Morgan - The family of La Conchita mudslide victim John Morgan has arranged a memorial for Morgan and all other victims whose families wish to honor their loved ones. The service was held on Saturday, January 22nd at 10:30 a.m. at Ventura Baptist Church. The church is at 5415 Ralston St., Ventura, at Ralston and Saratoga. For information, call 644-7191.
Patrick Roderick - A memorial service for mudslide victim Patrick Roderick was held on Thursday, January 20th at 2 p.m. at Ted Mayr Funeral Home. The funeral home is at 3150 Loma Vista Road, Ventura.
Wallet Family - a Memorial Service for Mechelle, Raven, Hannah, and Paloma, was held Sunday, January 23 at 1PM at the Ventura Elks Lodge on Santa Clara Street in Ventura. It is open to the Public.

  • Fundraiser Cliff House Inn - Monday, January 31 - The Cliff House Inn and Shoals Restaurant is hosting a night of music and dance as well as a Tri-tip/Chicken BBQ fundraiser for the victims of La Conchita

  • Fundraiser and Raffle at Velvet Jones - Saturday February 5th, in Santa Barbara.  Doors open at 4PM and will be open till Close. $10 minimum donation.  Come early to make sure you get in for the bands you want to see. There will be two raffles during the Fundraiser, one half way through the show and one towards the end of the night. Tickets for the raffle are $2 a piece.

  • American Harp Society Benefit Concert - Saturday, February 5th, at the First Baptist Church of Carpinteria, 5026 Foothill Road, Carpinteria, California 93013. Phone: 805-684-3353. There will be two performances: 1st concert: 3:00pm–4:30pm. 2nd concert: 6:00pm–7:30pm.   • Benefit at Q’s of Santa Barbara - Monday, February 7th 2005. Phat J, MC for 92.9 KJEE will compete with other local DJs in a very exciting and fun event at Q’s. All of the prizes have been donated by local restaurants and businesses. A minimum donation of $10 required from each individual admitted.   • Fundraiser at Sandpiper Golf Club in Santa Barbara - On February 9, 2005 we will be sponsoring a fund raiser to aid the victims of the recent La Conchita mudslides. 100% of all green fee revenues generated on the 9th will be donated to assist these families in need.   • Wallet and Womack Garage Sale - Saturday, February 12. Jimmy and Jasmine Wallet and The Womacks are having a big garage sale, offering for sale many of the goods donated to them. The garage sale is this Saturday, February 12. From 8:00am-9:00am, locals from La Conchita can take what they want, for free. 9:00am-1:00pm the garage sale is open to the general public. The garage sale will take place in Carpinteria, at the corner of 8th and Elm Ave.

Donations will be disbursed with advice by members of the La Conchita community and the Red Cross.

  • Carpinteria Art Show/Sale to Benefit La Conchita - Saturday, February 19th, 2pm-9pm. Carpinteria Woman's Club, 1059 Vallecito Rd, Carpinteria. $10 donation after 6pm. Includes - hors d'oeuvres , beverages, and music entertainment. Original paintings, ceramics, and jewlery, all by local artists will be for sale.

  • The Waldorf School of Santa Barbara hosted Starlite Puppets for a special morning of puppetry for children. The puppet story was an African tale entitled Nkosnati and the Dragon and was held on Friday, February 18. Donations were collected from the parents and teachers of the school. All proceeds are to be given to the Victims of La Conchita Fund.

  • Helping Hands Concert - Friday, March 4 from 7pm-11pm at the Marjorie Luke Theatre on the campus of Santa Barbara Junior High School. An acoustic music celebration of the Folk Mote Community. A tribute of thanks by local musicians with proceeds to benefit La Conchita victims Cherie Chako and Nadine Bunn.
