charging for chips?, 2/22/2014
Reviewer: chris from Santa Barbara, CA
Rajas (with steak) were excellent, though house salad was out-of-the bag style. Combo of chili relleno, enchillada, and taco with beans/rice was big and flavorful, though piled pretty tight on the plate. They have a salsa bar with a two cup limit despite their $$ entree prices, and they want $1.95 extra for chips! Bizarre. Service was quick after ordering at the register. Staff checked in to see that all was good, which it was except for the cheapskate chip policy.

Good food, prices what? Service what?
Reviewer: Scott C. from Santa Barbara, CA
This place really makes excellent and fresh food, but price needs to be factored into the rating. Their humble fairytale beginnings as a tiny hole in the wall on Figueroa St is something all new restaurant owners starting from scratch probably dream of and I for one was so happy for their success. BUT, they have changed. $13 for fish tacos. One iddy bitty piece of fish slightly longer than my car key and about twice as as thick as my iPhone. Adding anything to a taco or burrito (guacamole, sour cream) totally increases the price by several dollars and if it's a side order, so so tiny! They now have a "salsa rule" where you're limited to something like 1 or 2 salsas and had the audacity to remove the extra one we had on our table. LOL, are you kidding me? They went from a mom 'n pop place with the owners behind the counter to a great food but wannabe enterprise in a short time with bad attitude employees and managers. There are pleeeeennnnty of superb mexican food places in town and I'll be going to places where "best of" awards and good business hasn't gone to their heads. Food A+, Prices D-, Service C-/D+, Overall I would give this restaurant a D, ten years ago an A+. Good riddance!!! I am saddened to not support this place anymore but on the upside their fans will have one less person to wait in line behind.

I've been going here for years and it's a totally different atmosphere than the one in MT- you order at the counter and they bring it our to you a few minutes later. My favorite is the Gringa! It's a special so I think they only serve it on certain days but it's delicious!

Overpriced. Watch out on adding L/T/O!
Reviewer: MZL from Santa Barbara, CA
Food is decent and tasty for American Mexican food. Not authentic, but that's not always a bad thing. Proximity is why I chose to go here. I asked for Lettuce/onions/tomatoes inside my 10$ burrito. I understand adding a surcharge and its not subway, but they were going to add 50c per addition. That's outrageous and should belong in Montecito, not downtown lunch! They also have no meals or specials for under 10$. Next time I'll walk the extra block to get the same good ol burrito for half the price.

No one makes Mex Rice like mine...But...

One of these days I'm going to sell the recipe for my rice ( Garlic and ? people )....But I do love the Albondigas Soup and their Mole Chicken Enchiladas are to die....But I will say, I don't like the fact that they charge for chips & salas...or I should say charge for chips. I do enjoy the food though.

Gourmet Mexican Food (not an oxymoron here!)
Reviewer: Vic T from Santa Barbara, CA
We eat at a lot of local Mexican restaurants and Los Arroyos has always served fresher, tastier and more creative dishes than anywhere else. The crab enchiladas we had were fantastic, stuffed full of dungeness crab, topped with a light amazing salsa. Their rice is also the best, so simple but so tasty. Go to Here!

Teeny-tiny guacamole
Reviewer: Danelle from Santa Barbara, CA
My boyfriend and I were craving some guacamole, and didn't feel like driving anywhere, so we walked over to Los Arroyos for a to-go order. We couldn't have been more disappointed. You know those tiny little salsa plastic cups? That's how much guacamole we were served(about 3-4 bites)! And, it took about 10-15 minutes for them to prepare it. I actually went back up to the counter and asked if that was the appropriate size, and when the gentleman said yes, my jaw literally dropped open. What a total disappointment!!

LOVE IT!!!

STEAK TACOS!!!!!!IS AN ALWAYS FOR ME!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE THEM! Their Guac. is one of my favorites!!! Only thing I can say is that they are a bit on the pricer side and I kinda wish they had another or larger location.. they're so popular it can be some work finding a seat

Second Time was Better...
Reviewer: Krista English from Santa Barbara, CA
I'm glad I gave Los Arroyos a 2nd try. Knowing to expect expensive and that I have to pay to have chips & salsa helped. Also not getting a typical taco, but something more interesting also helped. I recommend the Tacos Al Pastor - excellent with an added twist of grilled pineapple! I also recommend the chile con queso which is a wonderful chile and cheese sauce you spoon into hot fresh tortillas - delicious! Our ceasar salad didn't taste like just mayo dressing like a previous reviewer. To top it off as we were leaving, a server asked how we liked it, if we're visiting (we're locals), and I said no but b/c of the expense we only come rarely, like my birthday tonight. She got our check & all the other servers came around singing HB and she even had them all use my name & gave us a free flan (best I've ever had!) Very nice. I was impressed w/the place esp. after all the neg. reviews below! Give it a try for a special occ. since it's pricey.

worst service ever!
Reviewer: oscar barrientos from Santa Barbara, CA
Simple order.Order a shrimp cocktail And enchiladas maria. Received the enchiladas minus the cocktail which is served cold so its obviously faster to serve. After waiting for 15 min I decided to ask the cashier if she knew where my food was, apparently she had no idea that I was waiting when the food was clearly on the window/counter. After consulting each other (group of 4) they figured it was my food. I honestly rather have my money back than be served food from some one who is not proficient enough to figure out what's was going on in their work place.

Great Mexican food

This is a great place to go if you aren't a student on a limited budget. We stopped by on a Sunday on our way back from Southern California just to try the place out. Great salsa, guacamole and fabulous burritos. Would definitely make the trip again.

horrible!
Reviewer: maria from Long Beach CA
I went to try their food with a couple of friends and I ordered a one-item combo which included a "veggie sope with rice and beans." I came to have lunch not a tea party. The sope was extremely small, not to mention the fact that veggies consistent of more than just bell peppers and "pico de gallo." My friend ordered a Caesar salad and the dressing tasted like mayonnaise! I dont think I will ever be returning.
