Great food. Terrible Service, 11/24/2012
Reviewer: Diane from Santa Barbara, CA
I eat here all the time. The food is consistently excellent. The service is consistently slow. We usually have to wait an hour to get our food, while they fill their To-Go orders.

The Perfect Sushi Restaurant, 6/10/2012
Reviewer: Nancy from Santa Barbara, CA
We love this restaurant. We've been there ~15 times now and it is consistently amazing. The sushi is always fresh and delicious - our favorite is the tie-dye roll. The service is generally a little slow so allow yourself extra time to wait, but the food is totally worth it. The small, fun dining area allows a cozy feel where it is easy to observe the chefs' crafting their sushi roll masterpieces. We whole-heartedly recommend Shintori Sushi!

AMAZING FOOD & SERVICE!, 5/30/2012

My family and I love dining here. The food is well-priced and delicious. This is truly a Santa Barbara gem! :)

great neighborhood sushi bar
Reviewer: Chuck from Santa Barbara, CA
I have driven past this place for years now I think and never went in. It's less than a mile from my house and I finally decided to walk there on my own to give it a try. It's a nice little place. The room was only maybe a third full so the service was fast and well timed. They brought me a nice bowl of edamame to snack on right away which I thought was a nice touch. I thought the food was great; the miso soup had a wonderful flavor, and the presentation of the sushi rolls was beautiful with a lot more attention to detail than I am used to. The prices were just slightly high maybe but in my opinion worth it. I will definitely be back. This is my new favorite neighborhood restaurant.

food so so, service worse
Reviewer: Eric from Santa Barbara, CA
Went there last night with my family (5). We waited more than 15 minutes before the waitress came to take our order then waited 40 minutes more for the first of our food to arrive while watching other tables get there food. Finally after 1 1/2 hours (and asking the waitress three times) the last of our order arrived. The food was ok but the chefs seemed unable to prioritize the orders coming in (our food came out after other parties started receiving theirs) . The wait staff were not communicative (when we asked about the food all we got was, "It's coming"). I think they should have been more proactive and let us know what was happening instead of us having to ask each time.

Best Sushi in Town!!!
Reviewer: Tony from Santa Barbara, CA
Yeah, it's a small place...yeah it gets packed. Yeah..the orders can take a little long when they are slammed..but it's worth the wait and a treat! I've had more good fast moving pace food there then long waits. Take in to consideration that they are 2 chefs and the phone is constantly ringing. Love this place..I go 2 times a week.

shintori never charge extra for togo order

Great take out! Bad Hostess
Reviewer: Kathryn from Santa Barbara, CA
When I arrived I ordered one california roll to go. The hostess took down my order and came back with a check. I was a little shocked that they add on a $2 to-go charge per roll for take out. Didn't want to be rude so just rolled with the punch. The bill was $5.28 for the roll plus $2 charge which equaled $7.28. I paid $10.28 since I only had two 5 dollar bills plus exact change. I waited for a few minutes for my $3 to come back. My order was almost ready. I had to ask for my change. She told me she thought it was her tip. Like I was going to pay 50% in tips just for one sushi roll TO-GO. Then I had to listen to her bad mouth me in another language for my nerve to ask for my change. Needless to say food was outstanding and fresh. Just beware of the take out charge and greedy hostess.

Delicious food, very slow service
Reviewer: Sam from Santa Barbara, CA
The sushi at Shintori is probably the best in SB, but avoid this place during peak hours (630-830 pm). It's extremely hard to get a seat, and the past two times i've gone, I had to wait well over an hour to recieve my rolls. This place is best for take-out sushi, as everytime I order take out, it's ALWAYS ready in 20 minutes. They just need to prioritize orders, and i'd give them 5 stars for service

stick with sushi

i had the beef bowl the japanese waitress misunderstood and brought a beef ROLL. So after waiting the beef bowl was brought. The beef was chewy and I think they use liquid smoke as it had a pungent fake smoke taste. I'd stick with sushi

my personal favorite
Reviewer: kimberly from Santa Barbara, CA
i would definitely refer this place to a friend. its extremely well made. they have a variety of sushi rolls and other japanese dishes. me and my mom go there all the time. i'm going right now with my boyfriend. yummy. its a way to feed your body in a healthy manner and not feel guilt afterwards. leaving you completely satisfied. seriously pick any roll and youll fall in love i never get the same thing twice. that would be a waste of an experience.

Great Stuff!
Reviewer: Glenn from Buellton
Hard to beat this place, have not had better in Santa Barbara area. More of a hole in the wall place with limited seating but a long sushi bar. Park at the CVS, limited parking. Lunch meal was a great deal and inexpensive for what you get. They go out of the way with giving you little food and sauce extras I have not seen at other places in SB(I've not tried all the places but most) and the portions were good. Not really a "fine dining" experience but the waitresses are really nice and friendly and the decor is cool.
