Filthy tourist trap, 7/4/2013

Filthy tourist trap. Literally filthy - dust, crud on the counter, on the windows, unbelievable stench (not fish or food - but like dirty wet rugs). Food quality is pretty bad: burnt crab cakes were pre made and microwaved to order - hence still cold inside. Soup - barely warm and clumpy, onion rings - way undercooked, their famous crab - boiled in plain salty water, no spices, no flavor. And the presentation of the dishes - nothing like on the pictures posted online.. Very sloppy, unpleasant. Don't buy into the advertising - the place is not worth your time or money. Huge disappointment.

THIS NOTE I AM WRITING FOR THE OWNERS AND PARTNERS OF YOUR SEA FOOD RESTAURANT, I HAVE BEEN HERE MANY OF TIMES AND WITHIN THE LAST FOUR VISTS IT HAS BECOME NOTHING SHORT OF A JOKE! YOU HAVE TO HAD HIRED THE RUDEST SERVERS,POINT IN MIND FEMALE SERVERS THEY HAVE THE ATTIUDE THAT THEY JUST DON"T CARE AND IT SEEMS THEY ARE ALWAYS IN A HURRY TO FINISH WHAT THEY ARE DOING AND HURRYING TO GET OUT,THEY JUST DON:T CARE TO COME BY AND CHECK ON THERE CUSTOMERS! WHATS GOING ON HERE THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME I HAVE PUT PEN TO PAPER AND I HAVE SEVERAL TIMES TRIED TO TALKED TO YOUR MGR IN CHARGE AND HE TOO JUST DON"T CARE, TO THE POINT HE STATES, SORRY IAM VERY BUSY I WILL GET TO YOU! The waitress was rude. will be telling other nurses not to eat here just because of her, my friend and I didn't understand the prices and she talked down to us like we were stupid had no patience and when ur paying this much for food a little patience would be nice.


Good fresh food, poor service and to-go plating

I went there on my birthday a few weeks back, arriving at 8:10. The restaurant closes at 9. Upon walking in the GM briskly rejected us by saying the restaurant had closed. I had driven from Goleta purely to buy the cioppino bread bowl. Instead I was greeted by a rude GM telling me that they were slow and he had started closing down and cleaning the kitchen early... aka, he didn't want my business. I went there another Sunday night, and they were slammed, so I put in a to-go order. The customer service was appalling, when I approached the window to put in my order the guy asked me to just hold it a minute as he slowly counted money. 5 minutes later he was still counting money!!? When I finally got my to-go cioppino bread bowl they had placed all the clams, scallops, mussels, and tomatoes in an open tin foil, instead of in a container. A lot of the juice fell into the brown box they had put everything in, so I ended up draining the contents of the box into the bread bowl! Gross. Fresh sea food, crappy customer service, poor seating options, bad management that doesn't seem to care of customer satisfaction. Bummed.


Don't bother

Had lunch here and was very disappointed. Had lobster bisque, Caesar and king crab legs. I know lobster bisque and theirs was the worst I have tasted. You could have told me it was 10 different kinds of soup and I would have believed it. Caesar was under dressed and what was dressed tasted like oil, crab was not even warm and wasn't great. Server seemed to have an attitude. Didn't try the lobster but the price was extreme- more than $40/lb. Yes the view is great but eat elsewhere.


Gotta Try the Lobster Tacos

My boyfriend and I just ate here today and man oh man, what a TREAT! You can watch live crabs being prepared for the pot; I have to admit it was a bit disturbing, I didn't watch, but talk about fresh! We had the Dungeoness Crab with Lobster Bisque soup and Lobster Tacos. The servings are good sized, and we both were able to eat as much as we wanted. Service was outstanding, and if you sit at the bar, be prepared to enjoy your meal with those around you, it only makes for a more exciting experience. We were thoroughly impressed and will definitely be coming back!

BEING IN THE RETAIL FOOD BUSSINES FOR SOME TIME I REALIZE THINGS DON"T ALWAYS GO RIGHT WHEATHER FOR WAITING TO BE SEATED OR COMPLAINING ABOUT THE FOOD OR SERVICE THERES A WAY TO RESOLVE IT, EITHER SPEAK TO THE MANAGER OR DON"T COME BACK THIS WAY EITHER WAY YOU MADE YOUR POINT AND IT WILL OR SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO THE ATTENTION OF THE "OWNER" IF NOT IN THE LONG RUN THEY WILL SUFFER. ENOUGH OF THIS WE TRAVEL DOWN FROM SEAL BEACH TO ENJOY THE LOBSTER AND RELAX, (MIND YOU "NOT" THE TINY LOBSTER), IT WAS ENJOYABLE AND FUN. TRY TO GET THERE EARLY FOR BETTER SERVICE AND SEATING. GOOD TO EXCELLENY SERVICE DOES REQUIRE A NICE TIP! ENJOY.


RE: Credit card statement difference

Just commenting to say that I had a similar situation happen to me with another local restaurant where my total was different on my credit card statement than what I wrote on the slip at the restaurant. In my situation, it was not the restaurant's error but their credit card processing company and a few days later the charge was corrected in my online banking and the extra charge was placed back in my account.

We eat there on Jan 30, lunch cost $85.98 for 3 people. lobster was not only tiny, but the taste wasn't worth to eat in a so call SHELLFISH RESTAURANT. Service wasn't that hot either, they treat you like tourists, assume that they will not see you again. The total bill with tip we round it up with $100.00 (tip should be $14.02), but our bank statement comes with the total of $100.98. They must had some issue with the tip we left on the card. Watch your card statement. I think that was the worst part of our dining experience with this restaurant.


Amazing lobster and oysters!!!

This place is worth the drive. The lobster is some of the best I have ever had and not to mention the oysters were just as amazing. Everything at the Shellfish Company, is awesome. The atmosphere is great! Can't wait to go back again and enjoy.


Waste of my time and money

Beautiful day in Santa Barbara until we ate here. Lobster tacos were meager at best. I had to hunt for the meat. The fried platter was over cooked with poor man cuts on the squid. It is a quaint restaurant (crowed and uncomfortable) but they seem to just want to hurry you through. For fresh seafood and a $40 dollar lunch I expect more. Eat at Enterprise Fish on State St or better yet at Fat Cats in Avila Beach. I am sorry to see a local spot where they act like they will never see you again.


Writing a bad review about one of my favorite restaurants...

Such a bummer, but I do hope someone from the restaurant can read this and use it as constructive criticism. Friday afternoon lunchtime, there appears to be only one server working in the entire restaurant. Not his fault, but it nearly took 25 minutes to place an order at the outside window when there was only one person in front of me. Then after a 20 minute or so wait, the number for two orders after me is called and they are given my food because someone at their table ordered the same dish as me. Another 10 minutes later and I am given the smallest portion I've ever received. It honestly looked like a plating mistake it was so small. I was in a rush and couldn't take it back and after an hour of waiting, I was totally over it. Nearly $15 for an hour wait and still being hungry after. An hour later the waiter walked over to my work nearby with a free cup of clam chowder for the trouble. Greatly appreciated but I just want the management to give him some help on a busy Friday afternoon and make sure the kitchen pays close attention to their portions :)
