Delicious breakfast at Max's today after far too long, 5/21/2017

Three of us had breakfast here today and were so pleasantly surprised by how good everything was. It was pretty busy when we arrive for an 11:00 reservation, but surprisingly not noisy at all. The special crab cake benedict was delicious, although the cakes were thin for my taste but clearly home made. Both of the omelettes were huge and incredibly fluffy - I highly recommend the chile verde omelet with cheddar added. We had some minor special requests that they did not bat an eye at, which seems to be rare these days. Nice friendly service to boot, and they have their own (albeit small) parking lot off State Street.

Last night my husband and I had dinner at Max's. The food and service were outstanding. I think it is some of the best Italian food in town. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. We liked the quiet atmosphere and nice music. Be sure to have the chocolate cake for dessert. It is to die for.

Nice neighborhood spot

My husband and I enjoyed a nice dinner here. The bread, salad and entrees were all tasty and well prepared. Margarita, our server was friendly and accomodating. The decor is simple, but cozy...nice little neighborhood eatery (and not just for breakfast).

This is a sorry excuse for an Italian restaurant. I ordered calamari, and was completely displeased with the meager portion and soggy quality. I had an arugula salad with beets, which turned out do be small scoop of arugula that was wilted and a sliver of beets. This place is a joke and VERY overpriced.

I'm writing this before my visit, as I love this restaurant. I come to Santa Barbara on the train once a year. Creature of habit here. I love the suffle omelettes they serve. The service has always been great!! See you the first week of January 2015.

Undiscovered Gem!

We had dinner last night at Max's and, as usual, the food was excellent. Had their steak and it was superb! This was followed with their pecan pie and it was very very good too. The waitress was friendly and attentive. Max's is always a great place for dinner! They have a great breakfast too.

It's a great brunch spot, with great egg dishes. The service is friendly and attentive, the food well-prepared and delicious. This is why the place is busy all week... it's a hidden neighborhood jewel.

My husband and i returned to Max's after an absence of many, many years. We were very impressed with both the food and service. I had the Ricotta and Spinach Ravioli with the browned butter and sage. Delicious! More so than Ca Dario! I also had a cup of their soup of the day: So Good!! My husband had the Vegetable Lasagne and the Spinach Salad. Actually, he requested half of the salad listed on the menu; they accommodated him. Perfect! The environment is quiet and pleasant: you can carry on a conversation with your dinner partner without shouting. We've rediscovered a neighborhood jewel and will definitely be returning there!

Fabulous brunch

Had the second best Eggs Benedict in town today, (Crocodile takes first). Nice potatoes,onions and peppers. Very nice staff as well. Only negative, is the place is super shabby, really needs a remodel.

Dinner was excellent

My husband and I have been here for wine dinners but never just to have a meal so this Friday when we were looking we decided to try it. The Salmon appetizer was excellent followed with the special fish main course. Their wine selection was also very good. We had a wonderful meal with great service, we shall return soon for an excellent meal. It is a little away from downtown Santa Barbara but I recommend the extra drive for a great meal with good service. We enjoyed our Friday evening meal and would recommend it to others.

Normally i come here for lunch but tried dinner! It was excellent! I was impressed with their home made pasta and daily specials! The service is always good! Try it!

Breakfast at Max's

We had breakfast at the restaurant this Sunday December 2nd. To say the least we were disappointed in the food. My wife’s scramble was very watery and both of our potato sides were cold. Our waitress asked if my wife would like something else, however we were under a time constraint and time would not allow for a new dish. We asked that the breakfast be taken off the bill. A few minutes later a lady came up to our table and stood in front of us for what seemed a long time but was probably 15 seconds. She said nothing. My wife asked who she was; she said she was the manager. My wife told her about her breakfast (eggs and potatoes) and she asked “what could be done”. My wife stated that she had asked that the meal be taken off our bill. The managers response was “Did you eat any of it” My wife said she was eating the muffin. The Manager stated “I will have to Charge you for the muffin” My Wife and I both have over 30 years in Retail Operations and I must say I have never had anyone in the food industry act so rude and completely disregard the fact that as a customer, we were not happy with the product that was served. She did not offer an apology or anything! Considering the potatoes were “COLD” I would think that this would have raised an issue for her to address with the kitchen. I am sure that the Santa Barbara County Health Department would expect that the food coming from the kitchen is Hot! Considering the cost of acquiring and keeping a good customer in normal times let alone in economic hard times, the cost of a muffin is nothing compared to losing a customer that has been in the restaurant 5 or 6 times in the past 2 months. Needless to say, we will not return and would make sure to tell our friends and family of the way this manager treated a customer. By the way, she never told us her name, never offered an apology or even state she would talk to the cook… Nothing ! After telling my wife she would have to charge us for the muffin, she walked away. She never addressed the fact that my [potatoes were cold as well. Very poor Customer Service John and Toni Clark
