My wife and I have been taking part in their happy hour special every 3 weeks since my birthday in March . Each time we had good service and good food. We don't know what the last review went through, but it did not happen to us. We will be back for more.

worst clam chowder ever, 9/21/2009
Reviewer: fletch from Santa Barbara, CA
The four of us had the most sour clam chowder ever, was told kitchen added clam juice. That does not make it sour. The ceasar salads were orange from old lettuce. The crab sandwich was fantastic. The waitress was great but I will never go back again. How can the shellfish company be so good and this place is gross?

Bad Service!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!, 7/22/2009
Reviewer: Vanessa from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband and I are often in Santa Barbara. We were always curious about "The Fishouse." We were greeted and seated. My husband decided to use the restroom. Meanwhile, the waitress came up and asked if she could get me something to drink. I asked for a bottle of wine and when my husband returned from the restroom, she brought out one glass of wine and set it right infront of him and didn't bring me anything!!!! As she walked away I called her back and told her I asked for a bottle of wine. She replied "Oh, you did? I'll go get one." Never once apologized. We were on our own the rest of the night. The food was excellent, but unfortunately first impressions really do matter! We will never return again!

a delightful surprise, 5/17/2009

Took our our of town company there a few Sunday nights ago, and we all agreed the crab cakes were the best we'd had in years. Everyone one of us loved our dinner - we had the sole, halibut, auhi, and a seafood pasta which my husband said had a great flavor. Unfortunately it was extremely spicy - not what one expects at a seafood restaurant, and he had to down some Tums on the way home. I loved the atmosphere of the place, especially the bar, and the wonderful smells when you walk in the door. The decor is a well-executed nautical theme. The hostesses smiled and greeted us warmly, not like another um, "beach..side" restaurant in Goleta where you are lucky if the "models" manning the door even acknowledge you. That alone makes us want to return, something I will never do at the aforemention oceanfront Goleta establishment. Overall, an A+. We are going again tomorrow!

Went on a VERY busy Friday night. Had to wait a bit for a table, not surprising considering how packed it was. My friends and I, (5 of us)went to the bar for a cocktail first. We decided to get an app. also while we waited. We had the ahi and the calamari, it was delicious! We all had different meals thinking it would be fun to try each others. I had the halibut, (I totally didn't want to share because it was so good:) smoked salmon penne, chicken, cioppino, etc. ALL of it was so yummy. Our server was adorable. Really attentive and kind. I highly recommend it, we all will definitely go back!

HORRIBLE SERVICE, 11/30/2008
Reviewer: Lauren from Santa Barbara, CA
This was our first time going to the Fishhouse we had a group of 6 people and the night started of fine until we had to repeatedly ask our waitress for bread, our drinks were empty the whole night, and once we got our food(which was great!) she never checked on us once. at the end of the night she gave us our bill and we figured out how much everyone owed and were waiting another 15 minutes for her to come back to pick it up when she brought another bill and said she didn't add the 18% gratuity on the first one. once we complained about our service the manager was far from helpful, and the server complained back to us arguing about her service that she provided and telling us how rude we were. it was very disappointing and not what we wanted to put up with on our friends birthday. overall the food was great but the service ruined the experience and we probably wont return.

"Never eat by the water"

This has been my motto living my entire life at beach front towns. And Santa Barbara is no exception. We came here last night three of us, not my choice and won't ever go back. I just ordered Seafood Bisque. The barely warm thick reddish puree tasted just like tomatoe puree thinned with milk or cream. NO FAVOR. I returned it immediately after a few bites and I never return food. Another friend ordered fish that had so much garlic she could have warded off a dozen vampires after her few bites. Again, she returned the food... she simply could not choke it down. Once again my motto in confirmed: "Never eat by the water"

Terrible Service Horrible Food
Reviewer: Larry from Playa Del Rey
Bad experience from the get go. We waited for 30 minutes to be seated when there were a dozen empty tables. Our waitress had a good start but soon was nowhere to be found. My wife had to ask for coffee three times before it was finally delivered. My tea glass was never refilled. We started with a dozen oysters on thehalf shell, they were inedible. The oysters had obviously been shucked hours or a day ahead of time as they were dried out. My lobster hadbeen precooked and was not very good. So much for the "Fresh Shucked" oysters they advertised. I will never return to this place.

AMAZING!DELICIOUS!FRESH!

I went for the first time on a Tuesday night, and I was seated right away. I was a bit disappointed because we had to wait quite a while before we were greeted by our waitress, but the food was AMAZING. For appetizers:pron tons (will definitely get them again) and the ahi ceviche and for dinner: seared ahi salad and spicy seafood pasta. The ceviche was a bit too chewy, and the pieces were too cube-like. The pasta sauce was rediculously tastey- not too creamy and there was a good balance between pasta and seafood. I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Santa Barbara. They have such a great variety in their menu that you could eat here for a week straight without getting bored.

EXCELLENT!

I have gone to The FisHose on and off for years. At times it has been hit or miss, but the last several times I have been there it has been stellar. The fish is excellent and fresh, the service friendly and pleasant. Everyone should definitely stop by, especially for happy hour!

great fish - highly recommended
Reviewer: DC from Los Angeles, CA
My wife and I are fish connoisseurs, but other than sushi, we usually don’t eat fish at restaurants since we can usually do better buying fresh fish at the fish market and cooking it ourselves. But Fishouse looked tempting, and we weren’t disappointed. We had the fish skewers and the macadamia sea bass, and both were delicious. Portions were decently-sized (2 skewers and 2 pieces of fish, perfect for sharing) and we will definitely return again. My only suggestion for improvement was that the sourdough bread which looked like it had once been warmed and had cooled, and would have been even better if served warm. The service was prompt and knowledgable.

Some of the best reasonably priced seafood around...
Reviewer: Hajir Sailors from Santa Barbara, CA
The fish house offers a lot that many of our other "good" seafood restaurants here in town do not offer. During the summer it's nice to sit out on the patio and look at the beach, which is just across the street, and inside during the winter months the decor of our old Charthouse certainly fits well (you can still see some of the charts on the tables from when the Fish house was the Chart House. As for the food, most of it is great, the appetizers that i've had are both great: prawn-tons (great flavor) and the coconut shrimp. The lobster bisque is a compeltely differnet taste than any other lobster bisque i've had. Personally not as good as the one at Enterprise Fish Co. As for the entrees, the halibut with the goat cheese is amazing and if you're in the mood for pasta the spicy seafood pasta iis very flavorful and will certainly fulfill the expectations of an exotic palate.

Great last meal of the year!
Reviewer: Dori from Torrance, CA
I went on a 2-day excursion with my friend to Santa Barbara. Staying at the Old Yacht Club Inn, I asked the owner for a seafood restaurant recommendation and The Fish House was one of them. I made reservations for 6:30p since 7pm was booked. Since we arrived early, we were pleasantly surprised to be seated earlier. We ordered the steamed clams but received steamed mussels. Without hesitancy, they took the dish back and brought us what we really wanted. The steamed clams in white wine broth was excellent. Dipping buttered bread in the broth was heavenly. We shared the spinach salad and the dressing had a really light fruity flavor to it which complemented the spinach very well. My friend had the seafood pasta in the cream sauce and even though it was really good, he liked my dish the best -- the seared ahi tuna with vegetables. We both absolutely loved every bite. The veggies were sweet and al dente. The ahi was very tender and dipping it in the wasabi dressing then the soy sauce reduction sauce was a fantastic complement. For our last meal of the year, we were very pleased with the food, the presentation of everything and the service was awesome. We would definitely return!!!

Great Place!
Reviewer: Rachel from Goleta, CA
I LOVE the Fishouse, it is my favorite restaurant in Santa Barbara! My fiance(who doesnt even usually like seafood) and I go there regularly for lunch, and at least once a month for dinner. We went there most recently to celebrate our engagement- my fiance let our waitress know (we got a better reaction out of her than any one else we told, she was too sweet!) and she brought use champagne on the house and was very attentive. I have dietary restrictions and they always are more than happy to modify dishes for me. The food is great, everyone of my friends who I have taken there has loved it! I just cant say enough about this place. My only recommendation would be to make reservations for dinner, as it can be busy, especially during the summer. And do not expect super fast service- be prepared for a relaxing dinner in a nice atmosphere. If you want a little more value, go for lunch, as the food is just as good but the prices are much, much better.
