I've eaten here three times. The first two times were quite good, the food was above average and the service was fine. The third time was disappointing. The waitress was very slow in bringing us our drinks, and forgot things like silverware and the water that we asked for. She spent a lot of time speaking with some pool players and the bar staff. The shepherd's pie was underwhelming, the crunchy top had turned chewy, probably from sitting out too long. The rest of the food at our table was good. At the end of the meal the waitress tried to apologize for the quality of service by blaming it on a concussion. Hopefully not actually true, and I doubt it was. I'll probably be back eventually, hopefully this was a fluke.

I hated it here. I was served warm beer, and cold food. I got a terrible waitress, and reported it to the manager, and got a "You should be nice to the waitress and pay her a tip for working with you." I was shocked! Such managers of such a resturant and PUB should be great! understanding, and good to you! They should get it together, since most importantly, it was my birthday!

Friday night we had a great time!, 2/10/2010
Reviewer: Sandra & Paul from Santa Barbara, CA
My husband and I were in town visiting from Buellton for the weekend and decided to check out Dargan's on Friday 2/5. It was definately worth the visit for both the food AND the service. We had a fabulous time enjoying both appetizers and entrees (with pints of Guiness and drinks!!) and talking to our server--who was being picked-on in front of us by a group of rude people who need to learn proper restaurant manners! In any case, a couple of bad apples for customers won't keep us away, we WILL be back on our next visit to SB for more comfort food and en enjoyable atmosphere...and we have already told our friends...Kudos!!

Not a pleasent place to celebrate birthdays, 2/10/2010

I had never gone to Dargan's before. Feb. 5th will be my first and last visit to a place where I was force to pay tip to a waitress who gave bad service not to mention disrespect me and the group of people I was with. A tip is earned when the waitress provides good service and gives the restaurant a good name. It's a shame that management's response to our complaint about her was not handled appropriately when one of our group members went up to complain about her and was told that we needed to be nice to the waitress when she was the one mistreating us. Dargan's really needs to work on excellent customer service.

From the outside Dargans looked like a great place..., 2/2/2010

but on the inside there wasn't any Irish hospitality whatsoever. We were there Sat. night Jan. 30th, and the service literally was non-existent! Memo to owners/management.... When a party of 12+ comes into your bar to celebrate a 21st birthday, spearheaded by the 21 yr. olds parents, at least train your servers to wait on the group. (Every single drink that was brought to our table was brought by someone in our group. BTW the bartender that night was awesome). Train your bouncers not to harass customers who are spending a lot of money at your bar.... just because one of them has on a tank top. After our sons Godfather got kicked out of Dargan's, because he got upset that a waitress took 3 chairs from our table and gave them to her friends....we spent a ton of $$$$ down the street at "The Good Bar". We had great service, no dress code issues and we had a blast!! "The Good Bar" was the Best Bar!!

First time visit, many times passed by to the tune of merriment. The joy was shared with all in our party. We had a great time and I would recommend it to anyone, although we did not get to sample their food, I'm sure it's delicious.

This is our new favorite lunch spot. The lights are low, the fire is blazing, the pints are flowing. It's a fun menu with a wide range of options. The Irish classics are a must like Corned Beef and Cabbage. However, the Spicy Chicken Curry has a hold on me lately. It's got the perfect spice and makes me happy from the inside out. Get it with fries and rice; a sweet deal at $8. The turkey burgers are phenomenal too.

A real Pub- not like trashy State Street
Reviewer: paul from Santa Barbara, CA
I used to go to Dargan's occasionally just for beer, but last year I discovered their great food. At other places on State Street, I have had bad food and stale beer, but not at Dargan's. They really care about their food and drink, and the service makes me feel like a regular, even though I am not.

Great live music/atmosphere, good bar food
Reviewer: Nicole from Santa Barbara, CA
First off, please note the title of the review says good "BAR FOOD". As hard as Dargans trieds to be a restaurant, its much better as a pub. The food is just a dollar or two too high but the quality is pretty good. Ironically, it's my friends favorite place to get fish and chips, not the places on the wharf. Go figure! The service is geneally above average, I had one poor waiter who looked like he was 15 and didn't know what was going on. He tried his best but his service was not good, however he was very apologetic and polite and, being a waitress myself, I felt he was genuine in trying to give the best service he could. They often have live music playing and while its loud its also a lot of fun. The decor and lighting is perfect and their side bar with pool tables is excellent. They have games playing but this is more of a place to get a nice cold beer (skip the cocktails) and chat with friends. If you want a club go to Tonic or Q's, this is for a more....mature crowd. Perfect for the recent college grad! Eat at the bar in the "restaurant" side and enjoy the music. The bartenders are just as good at serving food/taking orders as the waitstaff!!

Not the place to go for a good time!
Reviewer: Chad from Santa Barbara, CA
I used to go to this bar regularly on the weekends. New management took over not too long ago and since, they insist on cutting us off or kicking us out every time we start to enjoy ourselves. They apparently don't realize it's a BAR and that people go there for a good time and to let loose. Poorly run, until there is a change of management I will never go back again!

Ask for a Snakebite!
Reviewer: Loni from Santa Barbara, CA
Another great experience at Dargen's! I finally had a Snakebite(2 actually) Great food, the potato Leek Soup was amazing, as was everyone else's meals. And thanks to Debbie for hummoring our friend with his crazy accent!

Some delicious items-great beer-comfortable atmosphere
Reviewer: steve from Santa Barbara, CA
Several good food items you will discover. We really like their potato skins (they use good bacon and cheese on them)-Yummy.(but ask them to serve you 2 portions of the high quality sour cream instead of the not so good ranch dip that also comes with it.) Smithwicks ale seems always fresh and wonderful. Easy to park in the garage right by it...catch a brew(sometimes 2) and a bite...and split. Feels good to be there. Your date will be charmed by the atmosphere if they like a quiet game of pool too.
