Another SB Axxess Daily Deal goes bust
Reviewer: Christine from Santa Barbara, CA
Spent $25 in July on a Daily Deal through Axxess to enjoy $50 worth of food and beverage, the deal was good through the end of January. Too bad the business is out of business. This is the second Daily Deal I've purchased that's gone bust. I doubt I'll ever buy one again!

Service great, food ok

Went to dinner last night. Not very impressed by the food. My wife's salmon was ok, but my flat iron steak was very unsatisfying. Basically just loaded with peppercorns, with very little flavor. Veggies were fine but unexceptional. Very few people there. I fear for their survival with such high prices. Killer B's next door was packed.

words cannot describe!

This restaurant is amazing! I ordered the mushroom duck salad and my world was rocked! The atmosphere is beautiful and the service was so sweet!

Location Ain't Everything...
Reviewer: steven from Santa Barbara, CA
The move from empty cave on DLV to smaller digs mid-State Street was encouraging, so the wife and I gave the new place a try last Friday. Big mistake. Both our starter salads were so heavily dressed we sent them back, but what came back was clearly washed off greens (cheese chunks had become macerated, and the veggies themselves were not very nicely cut) and sides of dressing; not a good start. Since I love a good filet, so I decided to try theirs, even at the steep $30 price. It was served medium rare, as requested, but the cut was less than stellar and gristled(reminded me of how much I miss the perfection of Ruth's). Anyway, the accompanying haricot vert were undercooked, but the bread was served warm, so there's that. Otherwise, it was unclear who our waiter was, since one took the order, but another served. And why on Earth would a top-shelf Martini be served sans olives or onions? May I have a water refill, please... :(

Great find! Restaurant mimosa was excellent!!

Great find! Restaurant mimosa was excellent. My girlfriend took me here on a date and it was hands down one of the best restaurant experiences we’ve had since moving to Santa Barbara two years ago! From the moment you walk in you are treated like royal guest. The service was outstanding and both the chef and owner came over to make small talk and to ensure everything tasted good. My girlfriend and I spilt two appetizers (small plate menu), two entrees and two deserts and nothing was short of amazing. I especially loved the Duck Confit Crapes, Short Rib special and the Meringue Mimosa. The atmosphere allows you to dine anyway you prefer. They have a bar and booths downstairs and more private seating upstairs. Everything is priced has appropriately, even drinks! The house wine was great. I would highly recommend Restaurant mimosa to anyone! The staff is friendly and the food is delicious, check it out!!

Great food, friendly and prompt service!

What a pleasant change from the prior location. This is bright without being loud, hip without being trendy, and just plain comfortable. Good drinks, new menu, new staff, and new attitude. The food was creative and delicious. The menu is split between appetizers, small plates, and entrees. We all had difficulty deciding, as there were so many attractive choices. The scallops with mango sauce were excellent, as were the sweetbreads. Be sure to save room for the desserts. The chocolate orange creme brulee is to die for, and others looked equally sinful. Definitely a place to return to. Go, and enjoy!

Very goos simple french dinner!

Liked the lay-back atmosphere and the bar. Great menu options Excellent meat, entrees. Would definitely recommend the steack+frite. Very good service. Lack of fresh bread for a french restaurant and ris de veaux was a bit salty. Continue to work hard. Overall a great experience!

A great start. In a new location

My wife and I have dined at Mimosa off and on for the past 30 years. We were intrigued by their new location on State Street and decided to check it out one Sunday evening. The hostess sat us near the back and I soon noticed the noise from the ventilation hood in the kitchen which was distracting. I asked for another table away from the kitchen and the hostess promptly obliged. The food, drinks, and service were amazing. Chef (and owner) Derrick came out and introduced himself. I complained about the noise from the ventilation hood in the kitchen, which he said was being addressed. This new location is an improvement over the old location. My wife and I look forward to visiting Mimosa again soon.

upscale, unpretentious, delicious
Reviewer: Chris from Santa Barbara, CA
The pork loin stuffed with 'fruity things' was magnificent - juicy, pink, saucy. A fine roast Cornish hen came with veg and a scoop of beautifully seasoned mash which tasted like more. Onion soup has the same rich flavor and a thick cheesy crust. Recommend the 4-top upstairs with a view down onto the kitchen ballet, full bar and dining area. Service was plentiful without being obtrusive, and a friendly farewell capped off an experience we can recommend highly. Prices are $$ compared to Habit, but reasonable compared with other upscale restaurants in town; and the "small plates" menu offers many modestly priced selections made with equal care for smaller appetites or nibbling. Mimosa's convenient downtown location and grown-up atmosphere make it comfy for the mature crowd and a welcoming treat for younger diners looking for a fine meal before clubbing or shows.

are you SERIOUS ????
Reviewer: a p c from Santa Barbara, CA
As we approached the new location, my husband and I immediately remarked, "Are they open"? It'd only been a week since closing the old location! There was an obvious sign; the lights were dimmed nicely; and there was a hostess greeting guests at the front door. To our surprise, the door was unlocked, so we walked in. The entire restaurant was packed, other than 3 waiters, 2 chefs and a mom and her son finishing up their dinner. The waiter told us to sit "anywhere" we wanted. Basically there is a football length bench seating along the left wall, the open kitchen in the middle and a small bar. We jokingly bet on how many people would write goofily malicious reviews on SB.com repeating the oddly capitaized phrase “Is it Open?" The food is "just okay" if you don't eat out much, I guess. SO GOOD try the small plates menu. Savory cheesecake, spring rolls, good dessert deals... Great portions and prices. If you do decide to give Mimosa a try, wait until the Chef's turn ON the kitchen hood/fans. It is an amazing personality test... all the snooty bad reviewers immediately turn up their noses so you immediately know who's friendly or not. Bring a smile =D

Congratulations on your new location! Lucky for me...

I dined in the new Mimosa for lunch with my husband and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. I work downtown, so I am very happy to have a restaurant nearby that does not have "the same old thing." I had their "Special of the Day" puff pastery (yummy!) and my husband had the best roast beef sandwich he has ever had! I am looking forward to dining there again very soon. Derrick and Chris are a hard working couple that deserve to do well here. I wish them the best of luck!

Menu????
Reviewer: Charlotte from Goleta
Why doesn't Mimosa have a current menu on their website? Instead they have a Summer of 2009??!! If I was relaunching my restaurant, that would definitely be on the top of my to do list!! The previous critique makes me not want to go anyway!

Are you OPEN ????

We jokingly bet on how many people would walk past this restaurant and give a look “Is it Open?" Before we got our appetizer, I can say there was at least 10 couples who walked by puzzled and then left. The food is "just okay". Expect a pricy bill for the non-spectacular taste and portion size. If you do decide to give Mimosa a try, wait until the Chef's turn ON the kitchen hood/fans. It is an amazing event...the fans are SUPER LOUD and they create enough airflow to suck the COLD air from the front doors, into the dining areas. Bring a sweater!

Still great.

First time at their new location. Same great food, same nice people. We are happy to support these caring and creative local owners and staff. But bottom line is the food and service, and we give them five stars.

Fresh start, looking and tasting great!

I had a chance to visit the new (and much improved) Mimosa during its first week. The restaurant space itself is lovely, with an intimate little bar to sit at or a selection of various-sized tables, including an upstairs mezzanine area. The kitchen is open to the restaurant area, giving those seated at the bar a view of the chefs as they create dishes, which is kind of fun. My dining partner and I sampled some of our old favorites from the menu and found them to be every bit as good as they had been at the old location. The menu is not the same as before, though, it has some new items that should be appealing to a State Street crowd. The service we received during out visit was attentive and gracious. I am so excited about Mimosa being downtown and can't wait to go back soon!
